  1. awesome preflight!
  2. which numbers molded into the biscuits indicate the year they were made? I just see a bunch of seemingly random numbers..
  3. I saw an email from Fltplan.com that fltplango will now talk with avidyne IFD units.
  4. I apologize for being distracted and losing focus on what really matters on MS... thanks for calling me out and keeping me in check... looking forward to seeing EM data
  5. I think you settled the debate in your third and fourth sentence. You've now justified reporting immediately before cross checking sources is primary responsibility of the media... Basically, it doesn't matter what is right or wrong as long as they are first to report to get exclusive viewership. If I were the pilot and could argue damages, I would explore legal action for defamation. Unfortunately, law suits are the only thing that would make them think before reporting, because what is right or wrong obviously doesn't matter.
  6. I wonder if the spark plug was mistakenly dropped before installation... I'm sure that is what tempest will allege
  7. In my opinion, no nav output renders this unit little more than eye candy. disappointing.
  8. Champion no bueno
  9. my general thought is that if travel can be made in 3 hours or less by car, then I won't save any time flying unless there turns out to be heavy traffic for some reason. I have heard that living in So Cal is different due to the heavy traffic. I am also 20 minutes from my field. That said, I still choose to fly because it is enjoyable. because flying is a luxury and it makes no economic sense, I never recommend taking on a loan for a plane. I believe loans are for necessities only, but that's just me. you won't be able to make flights whenever you want year around. Weather, particularly ice, will have you grounded at times. I might be wrong, but I don't think 6 months is enough time to get a PPL and IR.. If it is, it is probably too rushed...
  10. James 1:2-4 will tell you all you need to know about how to proceed. You're on the right path.
  11. I saw delighted to see my home field (controlled) started discounting for rent payers. regular price is $4.77 and I recently topped off at $4.15. but, if I'm out flying around for fun, I'll still drop in another field for $3.65
  12. I made one and used a bunch last year, but finally realized that I fly too often for it ever to be an issue. Someone did a test by frying roller bearings in different aviation oils and letting them sit for periods of time in high humidity controlled environment. The particular oil I use gave 22 days of protection in high humidity. I fly every week. If I know I'm going away for a period of time during the spring or summer, I'll hook it up for peace of mind.
  13. I noticed a nice red and white mooney with a lopresti cowl parked across from me at KTYS. The line guys said it is someone who just moved to Knoxville. Any of us here???
  14. Sorry, I didn't see pressurization as a requirement.. I just saw your destinations... ... Difference in time in the air for all those very short hops seems very small. I didn't quite understand the need for pressurization for the short distances.. The TX trip would be a little different mission, but it sounded like that was in the possible future and not often. You're right that the image of the 421 is a notch up... which might be important if you are trying to woo customers.
  15. my grand father had a 421 and my uncle still has his 401. The 421 was way more expensive because of the geared drive and more expensive engines and much lower TBO and a few other things. The 401 is more economical for nearly similar performance and cabin. The kicker is you have to find one that has the spar AD addressed or the airframe will time out. There is a very nice 401A on tradeaplane for $99k with low time engines, gps, GEMs, Stec AP, EX500, and most importantly; the spar AD has been done. If I wanted a cabin class twin and could afford it, I would be all over this one!! https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?category_level1=Multi+Engine+Piston&make=CESSNA&model=401A&listing_id=2240852&s-type=aircraft
  16. Glad you found the issue. Go ahead and do Dixie cup process and toggle fuel selector while you have everything apart. You will undoubtedly see more crud come out.
  17. He just bought the plane though... it may very well have been sitting for periods of time that is not typical for the flying habits of most of us... A plane that sits may develop some debris in the tanks from pieces of dye from evaporated fuel or dried out sealant... this is exactly what I experienced... once I got all of it gone, it has not come back since... I fly every week and usually keep the tanks near full.. That is not to say check plugs with bomb tester if available, or at least check resistance.. clogged injector on take off is not fun and it's too easy to try and flush the fuel system just to be sure, especially since the fuel pump was just overhauled.. .. I speculate some debris may have been dislodged from the selector valve when it was turned off, then back on during pump removal and install.. .. when I did the dixie cups while toggle the valve back and forth TONS of crap came out...
  18. Yea, if there is one clog, there is probably going to be more. Do the Dixie cup process and toggle the fuel selector valve back and forth while running the fuel pump into Dixie cups. Debris gets in that valve... I have made this an annual process ... Cost is nothing and easy to do Same thing happened to me when I bought mine.. Except at 200agl on takeoff. I did the above, then decided to send the spider, throttle body, and electric pump for overhaul, sense they were about 18years old ..
  19. Assuming you were in vmc, slip and ask for s turns approval. Without a slip or turns, dropping 4000-5000 in 5 miles doesn't seem impossible????, so long as I wasn't too fast to drop gear and start decent and you use full flaps and slow down to 1.2 vso... Maybe I'm totally wrong and maybe we are flying different models. I also know this is a totally different story flying heavy compared to light. I know my F doesn't slow down nearly the same when loaded up. I know I have had to cancel at 9000 before for them leaving me too high to make a stable and safe approach, as I knew it would be fast through bumpy air for the last 2-3k feet and they were taking their sweet time clearing me for lower
  20. Awesome! Thanks Tom!
  21. for some reason, some usb drives don't work.. The one that came with the unit should work when you just insert it though... Another owner recently had the same problem as you... even though he reformatted the usb to fat32, it still didn't work... so, he used another usb drive and it worked ok..
  22. let us know how mackinac is... I have our 10yr anni coming up in August and was wanting to go there, then over the UP and down through Minoqua and Wis Dells.. on the way back south, does chicago let you fly along the shoreline easily all the way to Indiana vfr? Or should one expect the need to file IFR and go along V7?
  23. I have some of those suction cup things and they are OK, but more difficult to see through... I feel like I'm unable to see and avoid as much with those, but not the tint... I know I got darker than 35%... I think I got 20%... I honestly can't remember and I am out of town right now.. I have the leftover in a box in my car I can check next week... In TX, I would go as dark as possible.... or maybe 5% in the back windows and 20% in the sides... I did back windows only and it made a HYUUGE difference.
