Any words of wisdom for a new 1964 M20E owner?
carl replied to MTNM20E's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
There is not much difference structurally between a C & E , ( 20 HP, IO) Noticing the parts manual . are the parts the same ? I mean interchangeable . I'm looking for flap hinges, for my E , would hinges from the C be the same , Within the years listed on this part catalog? -

Yeah an E up and almost flying again. Good job Tell us the story. And as daver says , Pictures please Hmmm MTN ... Mountain cause you are in Colorado? . You know that plane has no pictures of it to be found online Carl -
WOOHOO , I posted here and you guys told me Alan had a E he was parting out. So I talked to Alan and he is evaluating if the parts I need are serviceable.I will drive out to Jersey if they are. Here is a question that flashed into my head. I don't need a 201 windshield modification because I have one already , but If someone did want the windshield, or say Monroy Tanks, or bladders and you could obtain them from a salvage aircraft. Can they be installed in another aircraft , does the stc transfer? thanks for your quick direction in my search, because timing is everything Carl I did find this from sabertech from 2011, so i think that answers my question. As a holder of an STC, it is not transferable to another aircraft unless "I" as the STC holder agree to it and issue the STC to the new S/N aircraft. You need the STC paperwork, installation instructions, and ICA for installation on an aircraft. We're responsible for that part for the life of it or the aircraft and since the 337 is filled out for that specific aircraft it can not just be removed and installed on another aircraft by an A&P/IA sign off. Most of us who hold an STC make it aircraft S/N specific because we are liable for the part from the moment it leaves our shop and is installed on an aircraft to the time the aircraft is scrapped. I would probably allow the part to be installed on another aircraft, but only after it was sent to me for inspection and certification to original drawings, for a reduced price, and with the appropriate paperwork for installation and maint. It's all about the liability and who has it !!

That's cause you are a quotable guy. I never made the connection with the like button , I will hit it when I like it and when quote , I like it when I quote, but just never hit the button.

You should work for Aspen . I want one now and I'm not even IR

But really I think this question is more about the engineering principles of F=ma while spinning vs stopped ,which is a interesting question.and not about gear up landings .I have no idea
-
I think this is a great idea . manufactures should make a switch , yeah,in the shape of a horizontal propeller, when you get ready to land you throw the switch and the prop stops perfectly horizontal. They could position this switch directly under the gear down switch, in a kind of landing grouping arrangement so you don't forget. And maybe a lighted straight bar that flashes when the prop has stopped. just as a redundancy.

Can Can you expand on this? Is this about electronics? Mooney is coming out with something? I have an E, so it may just be a vintage vs modern issue. I still think alot of electronic products are not even introduced yet , sun and fun and Oshkosh will be busy just because people are all waiting and want to see what is new and cheaper . I am thinking of attending just for the electronic shows. I think prices will crumble before or just after 2020 So how long you can wait is an issue. After 2020, this high price stuff becomes out of date. All the players who are forced to use it will have had to get it. At that time there will be no lines and the price will be a firesale. But you have to stay out of the controlled airspace to wait.

Can't do so Legally! When a illegal detainment happens , what is your recourse. No someone tell me the police never acts illegally. Civil suit. BAM! We have no rights without going to court.
-
Yes ,but you can't stop them, you can sue them, and you could get evidence thrown out. otherwise , you are at their mercy.
-
Really, we can only object to the search but we can not stop it. The U.S.Constitution prohibits unreasonable search and seizures. The question is of course what is reasonable. That is decided by a judge. A warrant would give a pre-search judicial decision. A warrant is not a requirement of a search,or a seizure. Is a pilot not allowing his aircraft to be searched reason enough to have the search accepted as reasonable? Yes; the pilot is acting suspiciously. Can evidence be moved ,lost, destroyed? Yes.A plane can just fly off. It does not disallow the search, that task is given to law enforcement, later a judge would decide if it was legal, or enforceable. If it was not a reasonable, legal search or seizure the exclusionary rule would disallow evidence found to be admissible in trial. In essence the evidence would be thrown out of a trial. So the cop has the ability to search your plane. and to detain you and the plane. If he thinks he is going to find something in your plane, usually you will be detained and a warrant will be obtained so they can press findings it into evidence. If he thinks you are clean and wants to harass you he will search your plane and mess it up.Then your recourse is to file a law suit . If he is just working his 8 hour day, he has time to kill and has to do these things, he is not looking for the bad guy, he is training. Having been searched many times. I say "I do not allow this by I am helpless stop you, let me buy you guys a soda" (donuts work better),"and can I sit in the shade" One time the coast guard searched me for three hours. When they were all done I asked the "commander" why did they pick me. He responded " No reason, you were the first guy to cross our path, we are training some new guys and have 8 hours to kill " My rule is never break the law and it is not pleasurable, even the coast guard wan't bad, that was a boat and we were fishing.

Is it not true ;The headrest adds weight and indirectly creates a less efficient plane. I could make a stretch and say they will slow you down.

"I plan on running the engine to 100 hours past TBO (200 hours from now) " CJ Mike Busch used this description of TBO, " it is like the average life span of a person. Some people die early and some live well beyond the average." At TBO , you may have a great engine that can go well beyond 2000 hours. If you are not using it in some commercial application just fly it until the compression numbers start looking bad or you are finding metal in the oil. I Like the little picture thing, good addition. But you got to have some pictures of the Mooney.

Rocky Balboa: The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place It will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me or nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you're hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Ain't nobodies fault.
