  1. I have flown to Bimini from Ft lauderdale executive . Customs man said hi, how many, are you bringing in anything illegal . I said no sir. .and the said ok have a good day. into Bimini and into FXE, I did not even pay a charge in Bimini for anything. Except the ferry charge and lunch. . I was expecting a entry fee, but they forgot or something. They asked what I was coming in for , and I said conch chowder . I was just there for lunch. ADIZ crossing and Time of day , clock time of arrival is something to be aware of., so you are right on the money with your expected time of arrival .
  2. i dont know . but without looking. bonal lives in california and hank is in the east we need a fly in in midstate pa
  3. what would be my priority . airframe.quality i think i did ok . great . but that was not my priority when i purchased my plane . i have learned alot and believe anything can be repaired . but when looking for the plane it has to be the underlying airlframe . . also i think if you have a great mechanic working with you then you are ahead of the game. carl
  4. where do you acquire such a manual?
  5. Awesome , Wish I were closer. I just shot the whole day watching the many videos ..awesome too carl
  6. You an tell you are his son . you guys look alike
  7. I have be working on this too. And as Jetdriven states this stuff is a poison. The industry is coming out with new improved systems that are non chromatic. I am using PreKoteĀ® http://www.pantheonchemical.com/prekote-surface-pretreatment/ this is a non chromate prep. This is fairly easy to use, after this treatment you prime, then paint. So it is 1)Stripping 2) PreKote 3)Epoxy Priming 4) Painting I use an organic cartridge respirator (1,2,3)and I would use a full air replacement mask for urethane (4). Also these chemicals can be absorbed through skin. (Yes, I even use a mask for stripping ) carl
  8. I slide the seat back a couple of notches and can easily switch tanks without the need for any extra tools. NOW I'm really feeling stupid. I never ever thought of this . Coupled with unlatching the should harness, I think it would be easy to switch tanks.
  9. I had this problem , I could not reach the fuel selector . I tried and tried, so i built the PVC handle , it is great , and THEN i learned you were supposed to take off your shoulder harness, Hey now I can do it. .. And then I found the wing leveler , wow easier. they are great planes. carl
  10. I spent $8.48 at home depot because somethings are in multiples packages. I attached pictures. These are simulations only, my wing is not made of Styrofoam, measurement are estimated , drawing is not to scale, I have only posted this as a learning experience and make no recommendations . carl
  11. Thank you all for you input . At first I said I'll get the LASAR tie downs and jack point comb and be done with it. So I went to their web site and was extremely tormented. I don't think it is a very user friendly site. It took me a hard time to find the item. Then I tried to order it and i can't do it online. I'm guessing you have to call their sales person, parts dept. So I called, darn-it it's Saturday, closed no answer. Now i'm a little peeved! I take a break,I go out to the grocery store, when I come back and check this blog I see Mooneymite's and Alan's post , yes!, trip to the depot and I'm going to be set. Only difference is my tie down bolt size is a 5/16 -18 thanks carl
  12. My Mooney does not have Jack Point to replace the tie downs. Is there something else to use in place ? meaning from cost effective point of view . carl
  13. How about that Obama !!!!! Wow, now there is a topic. !! And this heated discussion is just about an oil change. I do agree with Amelia, if there were a side to take. I know several A&P , IA who are mega wealthy , they do favor corvettes and sailboats.
  14. Thanks both of you ,for the insight on the hydraulic reservoir. Like this Quote YettiIf you buy your w100 oil from Sam's Club it is about $5.5 a quart. Like this Doe Can I use any oil ? I use aeroshell 15-50 ,. I don't mind the price per unit but i hate the shipping add on.
  15. Bob, Just a fun question, Where is your hydraulic reservoir ? Do you have any pictures? I can't seem to locate mine. carl my A&P pulled one spark plug , tested it ,cleaned it , tested it , reinstalled it . in 12 minutes , charged me 12 dollars. then sat i my hangar for two hours talking about airplanes. I dropped off a case of beer the next day.
  16. i agree you would be charged about 3 hours . what area would determine his rate m my guy is 50 per hour so 150 is what i would expect . i change my own and it takes 3 hours but 2 and a half hours are just standing around doing nothing ,while you wait till the last drop of oil comes out .
  17. N201MKTurbo, Is that Bob Hoover's mustang in your avatar? carl
  18. A Mooney landed at Altoona AOO Pa today. I was working on my Mooney in my hangar. I looked for you , but you could not be found. 513ZM he's on this site So I took picture to offer as proof. carl
  19. also on this site selling airplanes. a 1964 m20 c . in that range . check it.out..
  20. yes you can find a great plane for less then your price . spend a year looking and 6 months closing . go through about 10.planes saying before you look , i don't want this one ..... one will reach up and grab you . .. i have done this . money . no matter what you buy you will spend money . my first.plane was a grumman . i didn't.like the way it.flew . so i overhauled the engine . i still didnt.like the way it flew so i sold it ,it was the plane not the engine . but i didnt lose money . i have a loran in my mooney that i just can't seem to get working right. so do i need a garmin 430 wass . i dont think i do . at least till i master the loran (i know). at sun and fun i met a man that has a p 51 mustang. i said i could never afford one of these . he said .. he could not either . he is a mechanic and rebuilt.it from scrap , he lives in the hangar with the plane because he could not afford an apartment . . the important thing , i think ,is to be in the sky . and we really do whatever it take to get there. 1967 m20 E altoona pa .
  21. ive got.two of.those too . 1966 m20 e.poh and a. 1967 m20.e poh i.only have one plane the 1967 e.
  22. My 67 E is the same . A real oil dripper .I think I could use some new seals and tightening of some bolts. my mechanic says he can fix any leak if he can pull the engine and crack the case. And then it might be from me spilling oil during oil change.
  23. Performance aside, how do you measure beauty. Nicely done.
  24. Woohoo, Awesome. I am socked in here in Pa . I want to fly!
