  1. another forum mentioned a lancair turbine for sale for "about" 450k Sure seems like a lot of performance for way more than I can afford, but still reasonable.
  2. I have a spare dorm fridge, that's a good idea, stock it with water bottles in the hangar, why haven't I thought of that before?
  3. He said he can't openopen the BENDIX mags up. He also didn't troubleshoot it, when I said what happened he said there was no way for that to happen unless the mag completely failed. These are pressure mags too
  4. Thanks, it can always be worse!
  5. We'll find out where he sends them, he made it sound like it's a little harder to find a shop to do the BENDIX vs a slick but I really don't know much about it.
  6. ran the plane up and all was well, a large-ish drop but almost no differential. take off roll seemed a little sluggish but I got 35" of manifold pressure. Heavy plane, warm day, high density altitude, not enough to make me even consider an abort. once airborne I noticed the fuel flow surging a little, and noticed I thought I could feel the engine surging, don't know which I noticed first. Tried the electric boost pump in case it was a fuel issue, it wasn't. landed and ran the engine up again to burn off fouling if present only to find the right mag completely inop. Go figure. lots of little links in the chain there. time to replace 2 bendix mags with just under 500 hours on them, anyone have experience with new vs overhauled? It's something like a $250 difference on each one. Seems the bendix mags are regarded pretty highly here and sounds like they run a long time usually?
  7. Either lower performance or fluid injection Apparently bosh or whoever supplied the ecm recommended the injection but vw declined because it would have cost 350 or so dollars per vehicle.
  8. Looks like it's this one http://www.trade-a-plane.com/detail/2155343.html&ved=0CBsQFjAAahUKEwjIk7af9qjIAhUClYgKHXyhCNw&usg=AFQjCNGtjZVck3nfNTYl_iaeYUrGIsHrwQ&sig2=twGcFWWWc42BSNDufTUUdw
  9. Those have been brought up around here before, they look pretty slick
  10. you... do realize... that VW is the largest car maker in the world, right? This won't put them out of business..
  11. our 231 is based at BJC, maybe I'll see you around.
  12. for me? out there, yes around here, no. Single engine service ceilings too low on most twins
  13. sums it up the fact that you're asking for opinions tells me you're already at least slightly uncomfortable.
  14. Not on the new ones.
  15. tell doc jensen hi. took 2 or 3 classes from him in the early 2ks. the decompression is fun.
  16. Winglets have been around a long time and I can't think of a single piston GA airplane right now with them. Perhaps diminishing return s at our speeds.
  17. Well, I guess all of them. So it sounds like doing one at a time is going to make more work if I have to remove panels I've already removed to get other panels out. Maybe I should strip them all and do all of them at once?
  18. any tips for removing the panels and all? I think I'd like to fix the cracks and redo mine one by one after reading all the advice in here but they seem VERY brittle
  19. after 7 years as president I think the GAF factor is low enough that he doesn't care anymore. wait, I don't care either.
  20. yes, it should work in the software build but you need to connect 4 or so wires.
  21. Correct. I saw a memo a couple weeks ago for a telephony similar for United that I assume is for transporting him but didn't pay much attention. I can look it up in a couple days if there's real interest.
  22. Went up to kgws to do some hiking for a night. Didnt take a lot of photos. Busy fighting the bumps. Crossing some rough country at 15,5 Here's a little aopa article on glenwood http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All-News/2013/January/1/Technique-Toughest-airports
  23. I find that extra 2" of MP from 34-36 makes a huge difference if I'm not paying attention and my climb rate drops it's usually because I haven't advanced the throttle in climb.
  24. GPS and ahrs already exist, it's a 40 dollar part. The nice thing about xm is the ability to get destination weather further out than I can on adsb
