  1. Ours does the same. Our avionics guy said it just has to be adjusted in flight, I just haven't had the time to hook up with him to have it done.
  2. It has to do with the fact that there are more cities, more people, and the runs are probably not 800+ mile 3 person relays like they are out west. But hey, get defensive about it. Whatever. I stopped doing PnP because, quite frankly, I got tired of people disrespecting my time and resources.
  3. being out east you might be able to do angelflight missions as well, I find them better coordinated and easier to set up than PnP
  4. Also, LEARN WHAT ROTOR CLOUDS LOOK LIKE!! Avoid the crap out of them. Last year a guy from KS parked his dakota up on loveland pass because he couldn't outclimb the terrain or turn. Sad deal, killed 3.
  5. You'll make it easily, it can be done at 12,500 if you fly the right passes. People take 172s into Leadville... Here's the thing, the winds this time of year are terrible for mountain flying. Greater than 25kts out of the west at mtn peak height and I park it. CPA says 30 but personally at 20 I think real hard about it and at 25 I'm out. Here's a FREE mountain route map https://www.codot.gov/programs/aeronautics/request-form more data http://coloradopilots.org/mtnfly_passes.asp TAD to la veta pass to north pass to HBU to MTJ looks good to me... PS don't fly I70 expecting it to be the low land, it isn't. There's a tunnel and loveland pass surprises someone about every 3 years.... Thank you for researching first, you got good advice in this thread.
  6. what this thread has proven to me is that there's really nothing out there for the money that can do what our 231 can. Either can't go as high, can't go as fast, burns more fuel etc. I think the only suitable replacement for my mission is a lancair 360, mustang ii (maybe...) or a glassair II. The lancair is the prettiest of the bunch so maybe that's the winner LOL I'd do horrible, horrible things to all of you for a questair venture but there is something like 60 of them total. I'd love a cozy or velocity. A 3 seat cozy would be pretty good I think but hard to come by and probably not great in the mountains of CO. I do like to be different though.
  7. no surprise to anyone I'm sure.
  8. I'd go covered parking but if I couldn't afford a hangar I'd do something else, take on a partner or something to make it work
  9. No flaps man. No flaps. I'd like to ride in one, it would be good for what I want to do
  10. I love the canards, but if the high approach speeds and long runways scared you away from those others, the velocity might not be for you
  11. thanks, on advice above I'm thinking we'll go into 40G, split the difference and drive to either end, not guaranteed. Now there's snow in the forecast for our return so I'm 50/50 on going. Stupid winter.
  12. I think it'll kill lsa also.
  13. thanks, I'll file over PGA or somewhere and then just cancel and fly that corridor.
  14. the AME game looks like a nice little side business for my doc. He gets paid same day, doesn't have to file insurance paperwork, and spends 10 minutes tops with each patient. SEEMS like a good way to boost his practice. Maybe the reality is different.
  15. I wonder if this will boost airplane values.
  16. I think a -7 or a -14 would be just about ideal for me, but it just won't do what our 231 can as far as speed and altitude. In fact as I'm finding out in my other thread, not much can. The dynon setup in the -14 looks pretty sweet though! Wonder if you could turbo normalize a 14, maybe not with the io390 or whatever oddball they use, but that would be one sweet setup.
  17. Depends, they do catch one once in awhile! If the plane is low enough to give a good location report I've seen them get caught. IE 5th house on the left. Sometimes it's surprisingly complicated to enforce laws. For example a couple years ago there was a guy out in the desert with a little radio station running out of his house.. Anyway it kept bleeding onto a center freq, finally a pilot caught his location identifier so we knew who it was, I even googled up a pic of the house, it looked like a radio antenna with a house attached to it, our suspect you think? Anyway he only broadcast on the weekend, and of course the FCC or whatever agency tasked with talking to him only worked during the week. On top of that it was during furloughs and/or a shutdown, this went on for MONTHS, literally like an entire summer.
  18. there are probably hundreds of cargo ops in FL already, plenty of existing capacity to smooth on in. Probably cheaper to ship good in anyway, being so close...
  19. Maybe an extra bulkhead or two in the tailcone, they still oilcan pretty good though
  20. it's warm compared to CO I don't think I can get the SFRA chart up here and I don't have time to ship one in, I'll stop for fuel in FMN or somewhere cheap and grab one if wingx doesn't have the data. After flying the corridors is it worth going over to see from the rim? THe long range forecast is partly cloudy, hopefully high clouds so I can stay out of them. Did I mention I hate ice? Anyways, thanks for the input guys, I don't get to go on long trips often so I'm pretty excited. edit: for you wingx guys the grand canyon chart is there, in vfr chart options scroll down and overlay it like the TAC charts, neat.
  21. thanks for the tip! I like being in the middle, park there and drive to the canyon and sedona if we want. I really don't care what we do I'm just going for the flying, lol
  22. How about kgcn? Fuel is nosebleed high but we might hop there then back to sez
  23. That place looks fantastic, but 335 a night a little more than I want to drop.
  24. you make it sound so inviting, lol
  25. Honestly for the ones close to me they're airports I'm not flying into in imc at any time, let alone when it's cold and icing is a concern so they affect me exactly not at all
