  1. so I got all signed up and qualified, I picked up a short trip for next week, only 200 or 300 NM and 2 smaller people, very little luggage. Now hopefully the wind and weather behave, I'm a little worried about it being winter it doesn't take much to cancel a flight without FIKI.
  2. Thanks guys
  3. Just curious if this even happens to folks, I've never heard of it. We had the mags overhauled and when the A&P put them back in, he had some trouble getting them timed. It flew OK for a few flights then we saw more drop and differential than we should, so he re-timed them and said it "slipped". As I said it's not something I've heard of in my limited experience. They're bendix mags.
  4. Unfortunately, I'd agree, though those are certainly not cheap either.
  5. Seems like a lot of money to spend for a short window of use. Shouldn't be hard to find someone to ride left seat for him to practice. One of the other owners on our plane did just that.
  6. all of our keys are copies.
  7. I suspect we have the old one then. Hope it isn't what caused my mag issue a few weeks ago.
  8. How do you tell if you have the newer type?
  9. Some time ago I could have added the rating on for about half what I could now but decided against it because being twice as expensive as airplanes it's something I'd get the rating just for the sake of getting it and probably never fly them again, same way I feel about a float rating
  10. I didn't see the 250 was only for private, since I have a commercial it relieves me of having to go through and recalculate 15 years worth of dual received and relogging as PIC where applicable.
  11. I vote we change the title to "announcement never"
  12. Angelflight west want 50 hours in the previous 12 months, it's hard to fly that much. I might have it now because I flew a lot this summer. Also, they want pic time and all of my training is logged dual received and not pic so I might be short there and I'm not going back and redoing 10 years of logbook entries.
  13. turbodiesel m20 would be neat, but I'm sure 700k so maybe in 2050 I can snag one used.
  14. hahahahaha aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha I wish...
  15. Ours doesn't
  16. agreed, with FIKI this would be the perfect plane... and maybe a little more gas with the FIKI and no loss of gross!
  17. Looking at it today some they definitely hard stop but there's a handful that will reverse really easily, I can almost turn them with my fingers. I couldn't see how to bend anything to make it tighter, the outer spines look like they stop and the inner keep the fastener from backing out? Maybe I just need new fasteners?
  18. I'm guessing we're missing some too then, hopefully it'll be obvious. You'd think the A&P would notice and fix it if we were, he's been in there recently.
  19. we have a LB with wastegate and turboplus cooler, I plan 190 true at FL180, 15 or so less around 13-15k they're right about overboosting, I can hit like 42" of MP (maybe more, never tried) if I'm not careful, on T/O roll I push up to 25 or so inches and wait for the turbo to spool then add what I need, 36" if I need it, otherwise about 30 is plenty on a big runway. Beyond that the MP doesn't move unless you jockey the mixture then it's sort of a balance to get them where you want... on ours anyway haven't flown another. On go around I keep an index finger out and grab the knob in my palm to prevent overboost. it seems to me that if you're not going to go up to 17-FL220 or do a lot of high density altitude flying you might as well just buy a J and save a lot of money and headache. Somewhere on the web there is a J to K cruise comparison and there's no advantage to the turbo down low.
  20. they have a hard stop but doesn't feel like they're in a detent of any kind, like they can back out easily. Not all of them, but about half.
  21. I guess that's the easy answer, I have time this weekend I'll mess with it. I'm wary of removing panels, the 182 I had if you took the upper cowl off and didn't put it back in the right order you'd never get the thing back on, so I learned from that lesson, lol
  22. Maybe they are quarter turn, I've never taken one out and that would explain why they don't fall out. But literally every flight half the stupid things are loose. With my luck one of these days I'll just have the whole panel come off. Maybe the fasteners are worn at the "lock" end? If they're quarter turn maybe I'm not tightening enough to get them clicked in?
  23. On our K the access panel on the pilots side, aft of the wing (battery and oxygen?) the screws are always working loose, since they're painted I hate to lose one, though I think they might be captured somehow. Anyone else have trouble with them and is there a solution besides carrying a screwdriver and tightening them before every flight? I think locktite might be a little extreme?
  24. I work in aviation and it's like pulling teeth to get people that want to go fly, I don't even ask anymore.
  25. there are adsb solutions with integrated WAAS receivers that cost a lot less than a WAAS panel mount GPS....
