  1. I attempted to fly to Asheville, NC today but had to plan on landing an hour away due to smoke. Of course after landing it turned VFR in Asheville but I didn't want to risk it. I need my instrument ticket!!
  2. I have a 1999 Toyota Rav 4 sitting at 9A5. I purchased it for $1,500 on Craigslist. I drove it from Roanoke, VA to LaFayette, GA to pick up my plane a few months ago. I plan on moving it to Dayton, Tn at some point. If anyone ever needs to use it let me know.
  3. I only used my 26 foot boat that has a 454 engine maybe 5 hours last year because because I moved to Virginia a couple years ago. Lucky the boat is paid for and I have have a Lakehouse I rent out on VRBO/Airbnb with a boat dock so I don't have to pay for a slip. Slips can be very expensive and you still have to pay for your boat to get winterized in the Winter and normal maintenance costs. BOATs stand for Break Out Another Thousand. A smart man once told me to always Rent the three Fs. If it Flys, Fucks or Floats, Rent it. I guess I am not that Smart!!
  4. Carl helped me get my tanks finished. He took time out of his busy schedule to personally talk to me several times and let me buy materials from him to finish the job. If he treats his customers half as good as he treats people that cold called him for information and help, you will be in good hands. Highly recommend him.
  5. Looks like you are about to take off in someones backyard. Happy to see you are flying!!
  6. Update! I went ahead and ordered new block yesterday. I went flying today and took pictures of the block and it looks good to me but I still plan to replace it this week. Two more problems happened today. My volts were only 9.5 before cranking and went down to 8.5 while cranking. Volts increased to 12.5 after it started. Little background to the story. It's a brand new Gill battery (one month old). I bought a Concorde battery less then two years ago and had very little time on it because of my fuel sealant isssues. During annual, it was dead so he replaced it with a Gill. When I was putting plane in hangar I turned the prop a little and it made a grinding sound. Starter was still engaged. I restarted it without problems but still had the grinding sound when turning the prop. I talked to my new mechanic on the field and I ordered a new sky tech starter and he is going to charge the battery and test it. I read somewhere if starter stays engaged it can damage battery. Not sure what's going on. I am tired of buying new batteries. Thanks for listening to my bad day.
  7. -a- I went up tonight and pulled down on the handle (JB) and it slides down with some force. I was surprised It unlatched without pushing the lock in. When I put it back up into the block you can feel it click in but you can pull down and it will come out. I did not get a chance to take a picture of the block. Is this normal ? Thanks
  8. Thanks for all the responses. I am still trying to figure out all the details of the 830. I hate to admit this but I thought it was my carb temp. I know I paid extra for the carb temp probe but I do not see it on my display??
  9. Thanks for all the responses. I will look into the suggestions and let everyone know. Troy
  10. I think I know what happened but I want another oppinion. I was high on approached and pull power back way back and put the gear down. I was 120 mph and a horn blew? I think it's was the gear horn because I had low power?? Thanks. Troy
  11. I noticed last week on decent the OAT was 64 and the CLD that's usually 0 was 17. Does that mean the carb temp decreased to 17 degrees and I should watch for carb ice?? And should apply carb heat?? Be gentle in me. I am used to flying in the dark. Troy
  12. Mike does this meet the ads-b requirements for a CB? I have never heard of this and looks pretty interesting. Thanks, Troy
  13. I'm doing the Trump-Hillary drinking game and I was drunk after 5 minutes. It's sad that in this great country we have, we have to choose between these two!
  14. Went to the Trump Rally tonight then followed his caravan to the airport to see him fly off. I was surprised to see him not using his big airplane.
  15. I have to say, I am always amazed by the extensive knowledge of Carusoam!! Thanks for all your contributions to the site!! Looking forward to meeting you someday. TR
  16. Don Maxwell has a lot of used and new parts. He helped me out with a few parts.
  17. Plus one on the sheepskin covers!! I think they feel great in the winter and summer.
  18. I battled the fuel tank issue for almost 2 years and finally got it back yesterday. In retrospect, I would have taken it to one of the big players. Good luck!!
  19. I just choked on my beer from laughing!!!
  20. I bought one from Don Maxwell for my M20B last year when I was getting another part. It was brand new.
  21. I don't know any different. I have only hand flown. I have never have had the pleasure of an AP. It's on my wish list on my next plane. Until then, I will keep one hand on the yoke at all times.
  22. Anyone going later in the week close to Roanoke, VA? I will be at the beach until the 27th but would love to go if I can catch a ride. Wishful thinking but I thought I would try.
  23. Following. Mine is exactly the same and I would love an armrest.
  24. I used to fly/rent out of Crystal Air when I was going to anesthesia school back in 1997. I wanted to say 1999. It was a nice small FBO under the class B airspace.
