  1. This is where Flightstream 110/210 comes in, it can display weather and traffic on your iPad.
  2. For some reason, it's not find the above user's pix: the link it's using is : http://mooneyspace.com/uploads/profile/photo-thumb-8452.jpg which is causing a 404, his pix shows up in profile.
  3. I would assume that's the normal operating temperature range, Like the red bar is dangerously high range
  4. GPS WAAS doesn't transmit anything. Yes, you reg no. will part of the info in the reply data from the transponder, if you are running drugs or just paranoid, you have options. 1. Pull the CB for the transponder. Stay out of controlled air spaces. 2. Reprogram the transponder with somebody else's tail number. Helps to have a paint scheme that makes it hard to read your number.
  5. If the Feds want user fees, they already have everything they need in their database, your address! They can add a user fee to the medical certificate process, they don't need ADSB. They just want to make sure you don't collide with one of their surveillance drones....relax, they are here to help.
  6. IF you stay out of A,B,C airspace, E above 10000 or E above 3000 along the coastline...you can ignore it They are not serving you because you do not give them big campaign donations....we have the best govt money can buy!!
  7. The ADSB wont show other aircraft that don't have ADSB, unless there is a ground station to act as a proxy. But that is only available in busier airspaces, ie near airports, away from airports commercial traffic will be above 18000, so they don't care about GA planes below, hence no reason to build a ground station.
  8. you leave mixture all the way in??
  9. No way, money talks (commercial aviation, avionics companies have it, we don't). If anything I can see it move in sooner. All that is needed is 1 collision or near miss, especially if it's involves a GA airplane. As for a portable solution, is there ANY portable avionics equipment that has been certified?
  10. I thought you can just file and fly IFR?
  11. On a related note, I been told keeping tanks unfilled helps prolong the life of the landing bungees. Not sure if a couple of hundred pounds makes a difference.
  12. service & parts manuals: http://mooney.free.fr/Manuels%20M20J/M20J/Mooney%20Service%20Manuel%20M20J%20Vol.%201%20of%202.pdf http://mooney.free.fr/Manuels%20M20J/M20J/Mooney%20Service%20Manuel%20M20J%20Vol.%202%20of%202.pdf http://mooney.free.fr/Manuels%20M20J/M20J/Mooney%20M20J%20Illustrated%20Parts%20Catalog.pdf
  13. Or replace them with: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/whelen71125.php
  14. I didn't renew, but I only show Standard and IFR... so I don't think you don't need VFR if you have IFR
  15. What did you go with for the wingtips??
  16. They make golf clubs ( wood heads ) out of the stuff, the face flexes when it strikes the golf ball, which gives extra distance. If it can stand up to that, it can handle flexing from landings.
  17. For those that retract flaps, next time you go out to do some pattern work, try it both ways and note your landing distances, I be curious if stopping distances are significantly different.
  18. M20J has in all caps: retract after clearing the runway.
  19. I find it a bit amusing that you have a Garmin 530, yet require a sticky with all the local frequencies, don't they have frequencies in the airport info page??
  20. How often do use your speed brakes that would cause them to wear out?
  21. There is different models depending on the battery, for Concordes require the S5 where I think the Gill needs the S2.
  22. Agreed, they need a 2 engine model, with 6 seats, or optionally 4 seats and a bathroom.
  23. Feds still published weather forecasts with insane abbreviations...note to FAA, we don't use teletype machines or 300 baud modems anymore, you can spell out text forecast.
  24. Well, Apple use to have their own protocols, only competition from IBM PC made them change, sort of, they still tightly control what runs on their mobile devices, they are not exactly an "open" system. I think they can fix this real easy with 1 change: all certified equipment must publish their external interfaces/protocols. That way we can still have innovation, but other equipment makers don't have to do reverse engineering
  25. The difference is whether you have a 406 ELT doesn't affect anybody else. ADSB is suppose to provide safety for all. All you need is 1 accident or close call between 2 planes (especially a GA airplane) and people will be screaming for improved safety. In the states when we were converting to digital TV we had delays, but they were driven by broadcasters (big companies with big $$). Likewise, unless the major carriers push for delay, it won't happen, I think it will be the opposite. Since they fly into mostly B & C airspaces, and fly above 18000, they will be pushing for compliance, and if there was an accident, they might try to bring in the date.
