Plane in avionics shop for misc. upgrades including EDM930, GTX345 transponder as well as Garmin's new stereo panel. So far so good. Decided to install the new G5 attitude indicator, as a back up, now available for certified aircraft. Called shop and placed request. Shop supervisor told me the new G5 was not certified for backup, they could only install the G5 as a primary unit. Huh? A bit confused, I thanked him and hung up. Called Garmin tech support and rep said, " I am sure that is not correct, but let me check with my supervisor." Long story short, The G5 cannot be installed as a back up unit. It seems the certification process is so costly, Garmin decided the juice wasn't worth the squeezing and will not pursue FAA certification as a backup unit. Now, where is that executive order when you need it? Best,

Ditto with the DVM degree. Go Tigers. If you had listened to your mother when she told you about those sweets, you wouldn't be in such a predicament now. Advise not trying to treat yourself. I fractured a upper molar and tried to repair with super glue. After 10 days another failure, so had to go back with Bondo. Bondo seems to fix just about anything. Glad to help any way I can. Best,

As the lady of lower social economic standing noted in her porno ad: "We do not need to discuss what is already assumed." Just another acronym for trashing the "NO SMOKING SIGN" Congratulations and enjoy

Hmmn, I thought whenever you pre-flight a Clorox bottle, somewhere you would need to check the bleach levels of the airframe?? And concerning the plane in the corner of the hangar with the broken reverse rudder, well, it happens to be the only plane in the hangar that a pilot can lift a wing with the rudder. Now back to those good old high school days and the Ford vs. Chevrolet rants.

Do you have a patent # or trade name yet. (Not sure these will help, but) If not it will soon be manufactured in Chon Ching and sold at Walmart. Well done!!

Hate to pour cold water on a hot topic, that being said, you may need a bit of aft ballast to solve those pesky cg issues. With the io550 in the m20R, Mooney partially solved the forward cg issue by adding another battery aft. Suspect in your case you might consider this method of solving your forward cg problems. Additionally, if you need a bit more thrust on takeoff, the Scimitar prop will help immensely.

You guys are making me nervous. Maybe from a Bonanza pilot, but from a Mooney driver???
-
Not sure all of Don Maxwells wealth is coming from selling battery relays. Counted 26 Mooneys in his shop for maintenance. "If you build it they will come"

Totally understand Trumps pilots concern about FAA mandating the " wrong stuff", however, all will be remedied tomorrow with a Tweet and an Executive Order. Or, as Crocodile Dundee might say, "No Worries Mate"

The new normal. Not if but when ...........

Fine wires are fine, long life, no carbon build up or very little. (Three years going and still clean) Mix and match no prob. As a side note, if funds are limited, consider Gami's instead of fine wires. My cht's and egt's were even even after gami installation. Adjusted the governor for another 50rpm and although not exactly a Saturn five launch, take off performance and climb greatly enhanced. That's why we fly Mooneys!!
-
And of course, talking about Gami's, how could we fail to mention Fine Wire Plugs? Just installed both at annual. Anything to keep the purr going smoothly.

As the years pass the thought process changes

Well, To continue the morbidity: Or, to quote Christopher Hitchens, "We all know what's coming." It's just a little tap on the shoulder with a voice saying, "The party will continue, but you have to go now and you will never return." That being said, not sure the tap will work with Aaron Rodgers. -
Feel like an idiot...fuel selector valve
DAVIDWH replied to Oscar Avalle's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Don't beat yourself up. You just did a normal thing. It's in our DNA to turn the screw, nut or bolt one more time, just to be sure. And, although we have torque wrenches for nuts and bolts, not yet a torque indicator for the common screwdriver. Too bad we lost Steve Jobs. Best, -
Now if I can just get that Acetylene bottle in luggage compartment connected to the fuel line, no more need for a turbocharger. Lower cost and much better climb rates.

Yoke ident button, For what earthly reason? Speed, speed, speed. 4736V Ident, touch click and done. I just ident-ed while your finger was in mid-air reaching for the transponder, now back to Waylon Jennings singing "Good Hearted Woman." from the Garmin 350C in stereo with surround sound. We do fly Mooney's for a reason. Enjoy

And this is how the professionals do it, once and done: Upon receiving, the yokes are visually inspected, photographed and the owner is notified of any unusual conditions. The yokes are disassembled, abrasive blasted and metal finished. Minor pitting is epoxy filled, cured and finish sanded. They are chemically cleaned and out-gassed in our ovens. The yokes are sprayed with 2 coats of TGIC Polyester powder and oven cured. Yokes are removed after oven curing and allowed to cool to room temperature. Once cooled the yokes are hand sanded to remove any minor imperfections. They are then cleaned and placed back in the oven until cure temp is achieved. The yokes are removed, sprayed hot with 2 coats of TGIC Polyester powder and then placed back in the oven for final curing. Yokes are removed, allowed to cool, reassembled, inspected and released to shipping. This is how the professionals do it, once and done. Sort of like tires and batteries, you only get what you pay for. Mine were refinished at a different shop in Cleveland for about $500. Turned out Mooney was so impressed, they tried to get them back to put on their new factory floor Acclaims. So far, I have been able to hang on to them. Best

No GPS, no WAAS, don't despair, San Diego to St. Louis, to NY and on to Le Bourgat field in Paris. Earth inductor compass, All Lindberg ever used.
-
HANK ASKED: How many GPS units do you need? If the system goes down, they will all be useless . . . Most aviation GPS units are pretty dependable, I'd think the three installed units would be more than enough backup. I fly with one (1). As the sweet Jewish girl said as she was permitting me to enter her jewelry wholesale store through a locked iron cage to purchase my fiancees engagement ring: "You can never have too many securities".

Have you tried this #? 903-643-9902

Bentonville ark., population 41,000, big city now. Helen Walton told her husband Sam if he ever took her to a city of more than 25,000 people there were going to be marital probs. Sam never left Bentonville. In his biography, he also stated that if Walmart had started in NY, Chicago or La. they would not exist today. Can't knock John Denver, but if you want real country, how can you pass on Waylon Jennings? Go Mountaineers!!

My golf cart seems to work just fine. Apologize for being so lazy.

I am sure you are familiar with the country western song by Toby Keith, "I'm not as good as I once was, but i'm as good as I once was once?" Toby Keith

Is it possible to flush mount the G5?
