Cmon guys....$125,000 for a kit?? You can buy a real plane, MIG 21 on Warbird News for $150,000 negotiable down to that price. Has Mach 2 speed complete with parachutes. Did I forget something?? Oh yeah, operational cost of (conservative) $4,500 per hour. These figures go out the window when afterburner is deployed. Hard to remember everything.

As Ben Franklin once said: "Never go to an old barber, a young doctor or an inexperienced Mooney mechanic."

Prob cannot be parted out, Just replaced complete autopilot disconnect sw because red button came off during annual and was lost. Unable to find or purchase button anywhere. You might get lucky, I doubt it, and ask a few avionics shops if they might have a sw. housing back in the old parts bin. Anyway, 1-903-643-9902 would be where I would start.

No part #, but just received one ordered thru Don Maxwell service center, Plainview Texas. Ph: 903-643-9902, service@donmaxwell.com

Feeling Cheated... I think... GTN Series Questions
DAVIDWH replied to Marauder's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
On 1/26/2014 at 1:57 PM, romair said: so is there a way to get wind speed and wind direction information into the GTN, and what kind of expensive equipment will it require? You would need one of the following approved air data computers. None of these solutions are cheap. King KDC 281 King KDC 481 Insight 1000 B&D 90004-003 Avionics shop told me, now its just a software upgrade, no air data computer needed. Is this correct?- 59 replies

Two words: Dog hair! Everywhere...We took the two Beagles several years ago... no more! Yves Five canine flying tips: 1. Only fly with poodles, very high IQ and they don't shed. 2. When flying with pets always have spouse accompany you to talk the soothing baby sweetie doggie talk. 3. Never fly with Bassets, IQ very low, and always run the risk of having to squawk 7700 If they should try to take over controls. 4. Please ignore all canine wailing altitude call outs at MDA. Always rely on your radar altimeter or AMS2000 Shadin connected to a Falcon altitude encoder. Reliably reports in 10' increments. 5. 10-25 mg. acepromazine tabs, depending upon weight. A little sedation never hurt anything. (Just my experience as a DVM) Best

Headwinds or tailwinds: The way points can wait, It all depends who is setting in the rt. seat.

My A&P won't touch the tanks - "too much trouble" The solution is simple.
-
Both mains leaking at annual. A&P said total re-strip not necessary. Both were patched and all is well, no more blue stains. He is well versed in both techniques, so I just said patch. Not sure cost of both patches, but combined with annual, paid $3100.

Let's not be too hard on them. We now have a GTX-345 that will talkie in-out and even talkie weather and traffic to Foreflight. As Donald Trump said about healthcare: "This is really complicated stuff."

Cause of Vibration in my 68 M20C Ranger
DAVIDWH replied to Chris 68 M20C Ranger's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
You do realize an M20C does not have injectors? This is really confusing to me. Just checked the calendar and the year seems to be 2017. Difficult to fathom planes are still flying with carburetors, carb. heat levers, carb. fires, flooding issues, rough idle, surging, hard hot starts, engine cranks, (no start), hesitation, sputtering, poor economy, bad gaskets, secondary lockout, gummed up with old gas, or as Gomer would say "She's clogged again". I could go on for several pages, but why bother. Yea, I know a bit about carburetors, flew a Mooney Ranger for years, then just hung it up. Surprising, it wasn't only the carb issues that frustrated me the most, it was the wide turning radius. Al Mooney was drinking coffee on that one until "The aerelons won't turn the plane issue was fixed". Now about those Gami's. Where were we?- 21 replies

That cracked plug is a red herring. You really need fine wire plugs, Gami's and new motor mounts. Just trying to help all I can.- 21 replies

No worries mate, just found the monitor function key.
-
Vance, "No integrated audio panel, but it does have a feature that allows you to monitor audio on the standby frequency" How is that done?

Before any aircraft purchase, read "Art of the Deal) Trump purchased his 757 in 7 days.

I too became frustrated with the turn and push era of ignition switches. (People have been brewing beer for centuries) This is 2017 and I do carry an I-phone everywhere I go and Foreflight is my friend. (We are looking for progress here, right?) At last annual, had enough, had it changed. Now its just all knobs firewalled, high boost for five seconds a slight sw. turn and vola. (Ready to copy) My advise to the turtle would be to jump on a hare and just get there faster. Compared to replacing the batteries in my EZE-GO golf cart, this is an easily solvable problem. Ps: Two aspirin (500mg.), cold ice packs and a thumb splint from (The Walmart) may ease your pain. Now, with that out of the way, let's continue the discussion of having a transponder ident sw. on the control wheel. Sometimes a "Snowflake" just has to have a safe space. Best

In the for what's it's worth dept: Once saw a frustrated A&I kick a Piper spar across the hangar into the opposing wall. Try that with a Mooney spar.
-
For the historically inclined: Originally only military pilots had transponders and combat pilots never liked to use all those big technical words, like transponder, so they just called them parrots. You guessed it, now you know the etiology of the term SQUAWK.

Looking for a Garmin 430/530, maybe GTN.

So, should I replace the solenoid? The correct answer to this test question would be yes.

May depend on your definition of the phrase " A tad larger". Two 6ft 1" in the cockpit, plenty of room.
