  1. Yeah, that's a problem. There is no (obvious/easy) way to add it. I have the original yokes.
  2. Looking to do the same thing. @Lionudakis Got a pic or two?
  3. Mine are original from 67, so I'm over due also. Months ago I offered to test and pirep, but got no response.
  4. Thanks. The timer is counting down. Everybody that even *thinks* they may need these in the future should jump on this today!
  5. Is there anywhere to purchase this hardware as a kit?
  6. Can someone be so kind as to provide the hardware kit ordering information? My Google-fu skills stink!
  7. Irrelevant. We can't install it in our Mooneys. Like others have said, I doubt you can anytime soon either. Want something now, or in the near future? Look elsewhere. WRT requisites (Ex.: G5 for G500), they are just a part of life. Nothing new. This same approach is used everywhere. Wanna get a Spectrum phone? Gotta have Spectrum internet. And Prepay. You see this all the time in automobiles. Want convenience feature {X}? Gotta purchase the leather package(!) Sometimes features or technology take a building-block approach: Wanna run Foreflight? Gotta get an Apple; won't work on an Android. It is a required building block. It's the underlying (required) supporting technology in the G5 that the Garmin AP uses. Can't get the icing without buying the cake... I'm glad that I could purchase the G5 as a replacement to the old DG that was precessing beyond reason. I was able to later replace the AI with a another G5 while adding fail over (and more) and subtracting the vacuum system while driving my existing STEC autopilot. Remember, you still have the option to build as you go. What seems to me is often lost in the rush to point out that a G5 is required; the additional functionality you have gained for your money. It's not like an STC 'fee' that gets you nothing more than a cover charge at a bar!
  8. Well done with good documentation. It occurs to me that you are in a good position to duplicate the test using just a couple of old blankets thrown over the cowling and compare the results for us...
  9. Thank you David. I now have this copy and I am ready to pass it on the the next in line. @hammdo? I would also be happy to scan this to a PDF, but it is copyrighted, and I don't know if I would be running afoul of those that care... Would the copyright pass to Coys' estate? Is there anyone here that could answer this? Thanks!
  10. I looked around for the installation doc and couldn't find it. Thanks. My yoke is like yours. This is a good, and probably best, solution with two issues the way I see it. 1: The trim switch. It sounds like section 3.2 call out a specific 'rocker' type? It infers a specific part number. (is this included?) Would it be possible to mount it on a plate like this, or would two separate (one for up one for down) switches acceptable under section 3.2? 2: Like many people, I put a tablet between the yoke horns like kpaul above. Bottom line is it's a real bummer modern yokes are hard to find and $$$. Looks like I might even have to consider getting a field approval. Thanks all.
  11. Can someone--perhaps @Bradp--speak to this? I'm struggling to find a requirement to locate these on the yoke. Here is the problem: with a stock 67 C yoke it's impossible to do... I have looked at the FAR's (and STC's as far as I can) to locate the requirement. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to be shown the regulation, but haven't found it yet.
  12. Would be interested in reading a pirep of the process, your impressions, etc.
  13. So how are you--as a pilot owner--to do that without first opening it up; and once you've done that you've shifted the burden of proof. Seems to me that once you send it out, you are at their mercy... Like they say, "just asking." Someone help clarify this one for me?
  14. Garmin hasn't (as of today) updated the web page yet though... The light is at the end of the tunnel!
  15. And is that their signature on the work?
  16. Pretty much defines what I call a 'wart.' (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) You're right, that's a lot of avgas; and according to the website, it's for experimental aircraft. Hopefully there is an effort to certify it.
  17. It was this, and similar advice, (learned after MUCH lurking about) that I made an autopilot a 'must-have' in the airplane I was looking to purchase. Having the goal to earn my IFR ticket (and accompanying advice by many--with MUCH more experience than me--that IFR flying without an autopilot was crazy) solidified that requirement.
  18. Very nice. Now if I could get them for my 67 C...
  19. Sure. Make some new 'turn-key' kits. My point is that given how expensive these are, and (perhaps) how many might be in the market for an affordable solution, it may be worth it for Mooney to have some made... Just 'throwing it out there'.
  20. How about later model yokes for the earlier models?
