  1. yea, I have made the "mistake" of accidentally picking up the "new" set of brake pads and putting them back in when repacking the wheel bearings....
  2. Feature request...CF doors
  3. This begs the question "How many A$P's and maintenance personnel does it take to change a panel lightbulb"? I say 5
  4. flew with Kevin Heath when he purchased the orangesicle. I thiink Jimmy has it for sale again now.
  5. According to AOPA, it is exactly as I have stated: From your link, Bob: Pilot-in-command time may be logged if acting as PIC. The two pilots must agree that the safety pilot is the acting PIC. PIC time may be logged only while the other pilot is "under-the-hood." PIC time may be logged because FAR 61.51(e)(1)(iii) allows certificated pilots to log PIC when acting as PIC of an aircraft on which more than one pilot is required by the regulations (91.109[b]) under which the flight is conducted. A safety pilot is required for "hood work."
  6. to log the time as PIC, you and the other pilot have to agree before hand you are the PIC. This opens you up to potential liability exposure without insurance coverage. Just something to think about The relevant FAR is 61.51, and the relevant sections are (e) (i) and (e) (iii).

  10. email David Taisch daveanruth AT aol.com and have him sign you up for the Fl. Lunch group mailings. They meet 2nd sat of ea. month but are on a covid hiatus right now. Darned, I always enjoy the Jan Leesburg event when we would all go and see Ruths fabulous train garden afterwards...
  11. the 310HP STC for the Ovation does not include a GW increase.
  12. A simple way to ensure correct routing (assuming it is correct as currently installed) is to fasten a 50# monofilament fishing line, or an electricians pull line to the old unit prior to removal. Then use this line to pull the new one back in.
  13. Eric, I would be doing your profession a disservice with my MK I sphincter readings. Simply flying the various Ultras at the same settings 29/24 50 LOP at the same altitude shows about a 5-8 kt difference from the non fiki ones fastest to slowest, and an additional 5 kts for the FIKI. Money, thats all I can think of
  14. Yea, Dan, This is the fastest one I have flown for sure. SN 31-0001 was a distant 2nd. Yea, it really was LOP, had to pull it back to keep it in the yellow. I think the charts you show were developed from the test flights of 31-0001
  15. Might have a lot to do with the FAA, but dont know for certain. Ping Kevin H, he might know. Bob K might also.
  16. Finally give up on the annual patching you do?
  17. Ron Dubin owns that one now. Full disclaimer, Ron owns 2 other Mooney's and is cofounder of the Mooney Summit.
  18. Ron, my Mark I sphincter gauge has a couple of the non fiki planes for sure making book. N281TA an Ultra Acclaim, and N914BC an older ovation were fast examples. N311TN I am sure would also, but she was Captain Mikey's development plane. Typically, I dont run em up to FL25 for a speed check, and rarely get into the FL's at my age. Here is one of the Ultras 50 LOP at 10K
  19. Get with Scott Sellmeyer, the 2 of you can get stiffies over the aero curves together
  20. We cannot fix ignorance, incompetence or poor decision making thru insurance small print, disclaimers or other "its not my fault then" tactics. Training and education can fix 2 of the 3. Proper maintenance and training will go a LONG way to solving a lot of issues. Does it seems like the guys who worry most about insurance hikes because of issues are also the ones most adverse in spending in these 2 areas? Some of the best pilots I know are pros that are constantly wanting to train in their little bug smashers. I learn a lot from these guys...
  21. If you think the filter is in a bad location, just wait until you remove the oil suction screen during the oil change for inspection. It is a piece of cake after you have done it a couple doz times, however. Suggest brushing up on your "shop" English well before hand, you will need the whole vocabulary
  22. Fly commercial to and from training clients without a mask on, you know, like back in the old days.
  23. I have also used them and been very pleased with quality, turnaround. Not the closest shop for sure, but closer than when they were in Washington
  24. That is the one. Same one as the photo I shared, that Don has in 3 pieces at his shop right now.
