  1. You guys get better prices than I do for sure. For me this is a nice convenience and I save a couple dollars.
  2. Just bought some Phillips XC 20W50 on Amazon for $86 + freee shipping. I see they have the other popular brands as well. I also bought CamGuard. As a bonus I didn’t have to pay CA sales tax.
  3. I’m getting the feeling a few people iron their boxers shorts around here. I have a confession to make! One time I was flying IMC I was below the icing level and I wanted to experience a little ice. I requested higher and picked up ice then I requested lower and it disappeared. BTW, no PIREP until I gave one. Call me foolish and call out the linch mob! I now know ice belongs in my drinks and not on my wings, cheers!!
  4. Your report would be very meaningful to us single engine airplanes in the soup for the reason you just gave. If you see any signs of ice we fore sure would see ice! Next time report it and this may be the deciding factor to the next single engine pilot. I actually get very frustrated with the lack of PIREPS and makes me doubt the accuracy of forecasted weather.
  5. They were busy and profitable but I guess corporate hangar and FBO made them more money.
  6. Bummer! That is a big busy airport to hold up traffic on. Plenty of spectators and unhappy pilots to make sure the ego is bruised. Hopefully it was 34R.
  7. CrownAir my on field MSC which recently closed (RIP) was also a Cirrus service center. They preferred to work on the Mooney’s but they had all the tight spots figured out and made special tools in the areas that needed it. Every time I would bitch about something I was doing because of my big hands they would smile walk over to the bench pick up some special tool and would you probably needed this, holding it in the air. With that said they did bitch about rocket conversions.

  9. R-2515 seems to always be active 8am - 5pm, Monday through Saturday. I end up flying to Mammoth on the west side of the Sierra’s and flying home to San Diego down the Owens valley. It would be cool to be flying around the area when the rocket lauches. We have seen the last few from San Diego. C9ADD238-176E-4DCB-90A5-5BAC289161E2.MOV
  10. I bought some 12V electric blankets for my kids when driving up to the snow. They work great and I’m sure they would be just as good in the plane. Draw very little power and get nice and warm. https://www.trillww.com/carcozy.php
  11. Mine went up about 16% this year. The previous 4 years it went down a few $ each year and that was after having a claim which surprised me. It still cheaper than my car which value is less so I guess I can’t complain.
  12. I’m not sure I would buy speed brakes if I had the choice but since I have them they are a tool to be used in the right situation. Landing gear down is still your biggest drag item. A few of the things I listed above are why speed brakes are not good. Your plane needs to be able to take off with the speed brakes deployed to be certified. Not that you wouldnt spooked on a go around and not getting the lift your used to. It is kind of like the first time you did a go around in a trainer plane with the carb heat on, we all figured it out. When I want to intentionally land short working the speed brakes and flaps easily reduce the length by 200’. I don’t recommend using speed brakes to compensate for bad technique.
  13. Well done!
  14. The few times I use them usually are. -When I’m behind the plane -asked to keep the speed up on final and need to get to gear extension speed -turbulence! -hot days and I float forever on landing -after crossing the Sierras and need to drop 10K feet ASAP to land. -when I want to land gear up (they create enough drag to give you the sensation of the gear being down and have to add enough MP to prevent the gear horn from going off)
  15. I was off Mooneyspace for a while and missed this post. Seems like some day people are going to value an old outdated plane in exceptional condition like they do classic cars. Only so many gems out there left, this plane looks amazing! Unfortunately the seller has proved himself as a person most of us would not want to share a beer with in our wife beaters and talk airplane with.
  16. Good fuel, good weather, good airspeed and good maintenance prevents 95% of the accidents I read. I like reading and discussing accidents because it keeps me from being complacent and complacency kills!
  17. The I’ve watched this video several times. I wanted to figure out how he could be so out of wack. The vertical speed indicator alone would have scared the poop out of me. What I did notice was the AI on the pilot side was way less responsive than the copilot side and both turn and bank indicators where accurate. So if he was only referencing the pilot AI he should have cross reference the instruments as we were all taught.
  18. Break in the weather here. So back to something!
  19. I just replaced mine after it failed. I went with new because I saved 9 lbs off the nose of my plane. I kept the old one and will have it overhauled and keep it in the hangar next to the extra magnetos and spark plugs. Those are the only things that have failed and kept me grounded for a period of time and want to have handy.
  20. Sad! Unfortunately a bold pilot and not so old.
  21. I would question whether the owner was truly running the engine LOP properly and the quality of the cylinder rebuild. Just because you have an engine monitor and say you run LOP doesn’t mean you are. Turbo charged engines are even more technique sensitive.
  22. Didn’t fly today because of weather.
  23. Yep! Pretty impresive KIAS and KTAS for a NA plane at 15K
  24. Portable O2 sure is easy and cheap to fill! It also can be left home when it’s not needed. If I had a built in system I for sure would have my own fill station in the hangar.
