Cigarette Lighter socket as USB power source

Yea, sort of think you're putting too much faith in the masses of "consumer" grade stuff that's out there vs the pro gear. -

M20J nose wheel collapse at KHEF
AdamJD replied to Mooney in Oz's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
I've done it. First year after owning the Mooney. Home airport was a bees nest as usual and the downwind was stretched to two miles. So I kept speed up on final and didn't bleed it in time. I was too fast and when the wheels touched, I popped back up off the runway and then the plane came back down slightly nose wheel first, which made the second bounce more pronounced. That's when I went around knowing the next bounce would have buried the nose. I was lucky and learned a lesson. Airspeed airspeed airspeed. And if you bounce a Mooney, it's not a 172. Go around. Not worth trying to save it. -
I just finished up my transition training with @TheAv8r, who I met on here. We're both located in the Houston area. If anyone is looking for transition training I can't recommend Alex enough. The training was not just about getting me checked out in the plane, he made sure to really prepare me for Mooney ownership. He provided a lot of great documentation along the way, and is an excellent coach. With everything that I came away with, I felt like he provided a lot of valuable service for the money. Thanks Alex!

Most auto engines would overheat in short order if they were making 60% power for any length of time. most folks with a 400 HP vehicle, have probably never made 400 Hp with it. If they did, it was for a few seconds at best. To get 100% power out of a vehicle requires red line RPM at WOT at sea level. How do you do that? Towing a heavy trailer up a steep hill at the coast in first gear? How long would it last doing that?
-
Fuel flow determines power when LOP. When ROP, it's the Performance Tables, which assume leaning to some point (RTFM), specific throttle and RPM settings, and particular altitudes. The Tables for my C are given at Sea Level, then in 2500' increments up to 12,500 msl. Interestingly enough, the % Power for a given MP / RPM combination increases as altitude increases, until that MP can no longer be developed due to reduced atmospheric pressure. Hadn't noticed that until just now.

I just did this same thing two weeks ago with my McCauley C214. Just strap it to a pallet and pick it up with your truck. It will fit into an SUV if you fold the seats down and don’t have a truck. Shipping a propeller properly is insanely expensive transborder. Cheapest I found was about $1200. One way.

Whats the shortest strip you will land at?

As always technology can make things better or worse. Are you ready to go back to an ADF being your primary nav? Or how about 4-course radio ranges? Personally, I want internet in the cockpit for better weather info. Not for watching videos. But it watching videos make the SO happy, that is a good thing also.

M20K TIT and CDT Sensor/Probe Sources
Ragsf15e replied to Q The Engineer's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Thanks that makes sense! I do think it’s 7 years, but it’s only about 400 hours (engine oh 3 years ago). I’ll look at getting it replaced next annual, but I think it’s looking reasonable compared to the EGTs. -

Cigarette Lighter socket as USB power source
Pinecone replied to PeterRus's topic in General Mooney Talk
Most of the support people have no idea. Yes, they charge to 100% of that they consider the capacity. The engineers set what is the max charge level for the device. If you charge lipos to 100% and discharge to 10% or less, you will not get hundreds of cycles. So instead of my power bank won't charge my iPad, you get complaints of this power bank only lasted 5 months and it is shot. -
Yeap. Necessity may be the mother of invention, but the Father is invention is LAZINESS. Cars are faster and less upkeep.
-
Plus they are NOT designed for continuous operation at 75% of peak power. They run at highway speeds at about 10 - 15% of peak power.

It has only flown 120 hours in the last 10 years, 20 in the last 3 years. Not exactly purely sitting, but not flown much. Still, in MN I would be ok with this plane, probably no corrosion and with the cam already coated from 1400 hours of use, likely not corroded either. If this plane had come up when I bought my E for twice as much, I would have jumped at the opportunity.

I need to get my M20J propeller from me (after picking up from a shop in Canada) to my mechanic about 2.5 hrs away. I'd love to not have to do the 5 hour round trip drive again. The mechanic said I might be able to put it in a sonotube and ship it that way. Looking around online says wooden crates, but also seems to be referencing turboprop propellers shipped internationally. Anyone have any thoughts on putting it (with packing material) in a sonotube and shipping it? I'm guessing freight companies will want too much money to be worth it anyway, but I figure, considering the cost of gas, if I can get materials and shipping for $250 might be worth it. I'll also think about shipping from the shop, but it's only just over an hour away so picking it up would probably be easier than dealing with international freight thanks,

Where is the “Ice Hole” on the Ovation breather tube??

Has anyone had an io550 rust problem? I haven’t seen any yet. plane lives in nj, indoors, not climate controlled… best regards, -a- -
Six parts to this challenge… (1) interest rates have peaked over the last year making finance more challenging… like home sales… increased interest rates really contain the price from increasing… (2) Supply… they aren’t making any new ones… (3) Demand… M20Js are an easy transition from the trainer world… M20Ks are a two step transition for most people. First step, fly a Mooney…. Second step, fly a TC’d Mooney in the FLs… short body Mooney’s cost as much as another car… Long body Mooneys cost as much as another house… 4) Long term concerns… Factory in existence… fuel availability… 5) Cost of getting a license is a perennial concern… Are there fewer pilots graduating into the ownership ranks? does everyone insist on having a parachute or something not available as a retrofit…? 6) number of children still living in your house… my long term plan to not lose money on the sale of my forever plane… My estate sale is going to be epic! a fully worn out plane and a fully worn out house… Best regards, -a-

M20K TIT and CDT Sensor/Probe Sources
kortopates replied to Q The Engineer's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I was referring to the Mooney OEM B&D TIT gauge and probe which can’t be replaced by a JPI grounded probe. But i don’t know if the JPI probe is compatible with the Garmin G3x EIS - would have to refer to the installation manual. But if your TIT is showing 50-100F above your EGTs it’s probably doing fine. Still though TIT probes should be replaced about every 500 hrs or when they start to read lower since they suffer from tip erosion. Yours might be getting worn out if from 7 years ago depending. I found a guy on marketplace that had a set from 15 years ago...call Don Maxwell, he seems to be able to find them for people until LASAR gets something figured out.. -
Call Sigma-Tek. I found them helpful a couple of years ago when I had a question. They also repair the gauges.

I'm looking for a fuel gauge for my right fuel tank, picture attached. The PN is 169BK-910-3-1LBW. LASAR has one for sale with a PN of 169BK-910-4LBW https://lasar.com/gauges/right-fuel-gauge-28v-169bk-910-4lbw-880059-103-28v. And it's on sale!!! Any idea if these are the same?
