Hello everybody! After a long search, my dad finally pulled the trigger on 'the Mooney' for him.......an '82 M20J 201. It is a real solid airplane, only needing a paint and interior update.

Last week I picked up the plane, had a very straightforward checkout with a Mooney CFI, and then flew the aircraft to Phoenix for paint and interior. It was a pleasure to fly and I now understand why it is such a desirable airplane!

On the instrument panel, directly left of the left fuel tank gauge is a button labeled "F/T RESET." Looking thru the POH, including the supplements, I could not find any reference to what this button does. On the electronic fuel flow indicator, installed on the right side of the panel, is a similar button used for resetting the 'fuel used' function. I can't imagine there would be two separate buttons for the same function. Looking at other panels, I have seen this button installed on several Mooneys. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advanced for any insight!

Is that Dustin Lebowski?

I suspect many folks may have missed the reference in your screen name and obvious avatar pic!

Normally this button is depress after a full fill up. On some fuel totalizers it will reset to 0.00 and then show the amount of fuel used. On others it will reset to the total fuel capacity (64 gallons) and then show the remaining fuel onboard. Obviously it is important to know which one is. Press the button for 2 seconds and see what it reads.

If you have an ADF, that button resets the flight timer in the ADF.  The ADF automatically starts to time a flight when you take off, so you have a "time in air" measurement for IFR purposes.  I have the button (big white one) but have only used it once just to test it.  You lose your flight time when you reset.

Jose mentioned that it is for the fuel totalizer.  It can be that, but in my original panel I had a factory installed totalizer and the button was connected to the ADF, not the totalizer.

Here is a picture of the button on my panel, upper left corner in the shadow from the glare shield, left of the yellow light for the speedbrake:

The ADF is on the far right side of the panel.

Thanks everybody for the quick responses!

jlunseth, I believe you are correct. The button in your picture looks exactly like the one we have installed.

Our fuel totalizer has a separate button for resetting fuel used/remaining, installed on the far right side of our panel.

The only reason I can think of to reset that button in the air is to get a leg time, and I discovered with the King 87 that there is a function in the ADF for doing leg times without resetting the total flight time. Don't remember right now exactly how it works but it was not difficult to find.  I can't think of a reason for using that reset button and other than the one time test I never have.
