Sven Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Is this different than the VMG gathering at Minden on June 19? I guess I'm confused. Quote
Ned Gravel Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Someday to Lake Tahoe for us. Just not this year. Enjoy yourselves. Quote

Sven Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Must be a different event. Not sure why two events are scheduled so close in time and proximity? I agree with you mjc. Seems a bit strange. Quote
knute Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 The last couple of years, the South Lake Tahoe fly-in was a big VMG event (with presence and heavy lifting from Top Gun, Lake Aero, Don Maxwell, Mooney factory reps, etc. - much thanks to Michael Golden for hosting); was there a schism that removed VMG from promoting this event? Not intending to dig up dirt, but wondering which way the wind is blowing... The goal last year (stymied by weather) was to be the biggest vintage Mooney fly-in, and then this year they're not even involved? The scheduling of a competing flyin just a week apart indicates that the VMG isn't exactly encouraging attendance at Tahoe this year. I do recall a recent message from Top Gun indicating that things are tight this year, and they're not in a position to sponsor the Saturday BBQ lunch for this year's Tahoe Fly-in (they very generously provided that in the past). Curious, -Knute (Planning to be at Tahoe again this year) Quote
Ron McBride Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 It seems like the Mooney Ambassadors are holding a Vintage Mooney Group Flyin. How does this promote GA to the public? I am for both groups, and both groups have a great purpose. Maybe the 2 groups should get together and become ONE really strong grouup. Ron Quote
Sven Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 So, now I'm really confused. Is the annual world's largest Mooney gathering attempt associated with VMG or with Mooney Ambassadors or with South Lake Tahoe Airport? Or is it MAPA or MOA? Maybe AOPA or EAA? Quote
mooneygirl Posted February 22, 2010 Author Report Posted February 22, 2010 The Gathering of Mooneys is a fly-in that was dreamed up by Mark Rouch and Michael Golden after attending an event at LASAR. Their idea was to have a fun fly-in at Tahoe with educational opportunities and socialization. Mountain West is sponsoring the event this year: a chance for us to fly, and get some education, and have a good time together. The airport administration and Michael asked me to help with publicity and planing of the Gathering. All Mooney lovers and flyers are welcome! Hope to see you there. Fire up that Mooney, put TVL in your GPS and we will see you in June.Again the date is June 26th. RSVP: sanluisjazzband@charter.net Quote
piperpainter Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 Jolie do you have to register? If I can't go to Idaho this day maybe i'll shoot up to Tahoe for the day, i'll have this as my backup! Quote
mooneygirl Posted June 1, 2010 Author Report Posted June 1, 2010 Michael Golden asked to combine this event with the Lake in the Sky event in August. He is getting the new FBO at Nut Tree up and running. Lake in the Sky, South Lake Tahoe, August 27th and 28th 2010We will be airshow participants this year. Complimentary evening meal on Friday August 27th, breakfast and lunch on the 28th. Free admission to all Mooneys who fly in. We will cap at 12 Mooneys on display. All Mooneys are welcome, and we will have space on the ramp, probably near Mountain West for any Mooneys who sign up beyond the display cap. Sign ups are first come first served for the 12 display slots. If you would like to be considered for the airshow demonstration, you will need to attend mandatory pilot briefings. Quote
