Marauder Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Been thinking about having my plane's interior redone and the exterior painted. Can you recommend some shops on the eastern side of the country. I'm in the mid Atlantic area. Also, are there ballpark numbers you can throw out for cost? I know the kind of interior and paint scheme will have a significant impact, but looking to see if I should ask my wife to file the divorce papers now or after... Also, has anyone had to deal with hail damage? I have some on the airelons and a little bit on the fuselage. As for the exterior, I want a more modern paint scheme and would be happy with a cloth interior, unless you think leather is the way to go. The Mooney has been with me a LONG time and it is my keeper. I just want to be able to have enough money left over afterwards to fly it. Quote
PTK Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 For paint, Russell Aircraft Refinishing at D74. Speak with Jim (302) 270-7684. Jim is a fair and honest gentleman. He turns out showroom quality one airplane at a time. He's been painting airplanes for >40 years. Quote
1964-M20E Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 My neighbor had his Arrow done in Mena AK about two years ago and the base price for paint was aound $8k. He had paint, leather interior and new glass done and he dropped a close to $20k. The plane came out real nice he sold it about a year later. I've never been down that road but I'd say if you plan for $14k to $17k you should be good. Before or after you file you only get half but you can enjoy all of the newer looks. Quote

Quotes for the same work had an $8k spread between the high and low quotes. My wife has been pretty accommodating on the plane lately. I've flown it for a lot of years and spend a lot on maintaining it, but never upgrading it until this year. Like my wife, it's a keeper. Quote
Marauder Posted December 18, 2012 Author Report Posted December 18, 2012 Oxford Aviation, Oxford Maine, Thanks! I remember reading something about them years ago. Did they do the paint on one of the AOPA giveaway planes? Quote
1964-M20E Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 The base price $8k was for strip and paint only (basic two color nothing fancy just some new looks and clean paint) add in the interior, glass, an annual and a feew other things it adds up quick. Quote
fantom Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 You will see an 8k spread in quotes, if not in actual quality. Folks who have just painted are usually in rapture. It takes a while to see if the paint is flaking off ;-) Give Joe at Hawk Painting, Tampa Exec, a call. He's been painting Mooneys down here for decades with lots of long term happy customers. Quote
carusoam Posted December 19, 2012 Report Posted December 19, 2012 I think George had some complete upgrades done on the East Coast. It's been a while. I'll see if he left his photos up... Best regards, -a- Quote
