RobertL Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 A fellow European forumite e-mailed me this link http://www.advantageavionics.com/N4MY_After%20002c.jpg This kind of work is a major mod in Europe so bureaucratically (the old saw of the paperwork weighing as much as the 'plane applies), and cost wise, would require a passionate devotion to a classic airframe. Ironically not having either an ADF or DME (unless remote feeding into the G500?) the aircraft would not be IFR in Europe! The ADF requirement might be waived 2012+, but the DME requirement (GPS not a substitute) likely to stay through 2020 and beyond. I wonder what speed gain and useful weight gain a typical Vintage Mooney might get once it shed the classic Bendix 12D ADF? Quote
podair Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 hello Robert! funny enough, my M20F had an old T-12D ADF. It was removed in 1993 to make room for a Collins... ADF! Doesn't seem to be that heavy, more a case of making more panel space available for a GPS Extract from the revised w&b: Removed items: - ADF antenna 2321 0.59kg , ADF T12D 1.77kg , 551 Indicator 0.77kg = 3.13kg Installed items - KI227 indicator 0.32kg , ADF RCR650 1.08kg ADF Ant 650A 1.18kg ....! so 2.58kg I suspect my trusty KNS80 is heavier! Magnum Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Some European Countries require a ADF only for ADF approaches. If you don't fly one, you don't need one. At least here in Germany. DMEs are mandatory, unfortunately there are only a few units certified in Europe (like the KN62A-01) and they are still pricey. I was very happy to buy a used one for US$ 2.250 Quote
Auburn02 Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Aside from the ADF discussion, that panel is ridiculously awesome! Quote
