SkyPilot Posted March 21, 2014 Report Posted March 21, 2014 I open the tanks before every flight (unless it is a short stopover and the airplane is secure). I also sump the fuel every day before the first flight and after fueling. I store the bird in a hanger so I never have found any water in the fuel in the 3 years I have owned it. I did have some right after purchase, but a fuel line change and a few flights and it was gone... I dump the sumped fuel on the weeds that grow in the ramp cracks. It is fairly de-green, but then, I don't like weeds Quote
Hank Posted March 21, 2014 Report Posted March 21, 2014 Yes, I dip my tanks for every flight. The only exceptions are when I am making a short flight [~30 minutes or so], when I may only dip one tank if it has 15 gals or more. I do not re-dip for my return short flight if all I've done is go inside and eat. Each tank holds 26 gals; after resealing them, the FBO filled them to the caps with 52.2 gals, so the labels are pretty accurate. I used to fill up on return every time, now I skip that step on short burger runs or if I'm in a hurry. But I do try not to sit very long with just a few gallons in a tank. Quote
DaveAnderson Posted March 22, 2014 Report Posted March 22, 2014 Every flight, no matter how short. Open the caps and look inside for a visual check. What is it...like ten seconds to check or something? My thinking is if i don't do something on the checklist for one reason or another, then i'll eventually miss something and it will end up being something big. Quote
Sonic Posted March 22, 2014 Report Posted March 22, 2014 I look and sump before the first flight of each day and after fueling. Unless I'm intentionally reducing GW I keep the tanks topped off. Since I know my fuel burn (within 5%), I use my watch to track fuel quantity. Quote
