Mcstealth Posted November 7 Report Posted November 7 Hey there. Question please. O-320 on a Glasair 1. Extended prop hub, with the governor at the rear of the engine. I had the prop overhauled at San Antonio Propeller. (Good folks there, with about a one month turn around for my project) The test pilot stated the prop over sped to 2800 RPM when everything was full forward. It took a full turn of the knob to lower RPM to 2700. He also stated that this was already an existing condition before overhaul. To remedy this, is it a cable adjustment, or a governor adjustment? I'm not an A/P, barely consider myself a mechanic. thanks in advance. David Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted November 7 Report Posted November 7 It is just the stop screw on the governor. Does the same thing as rolling the prop control back. Check the cable after the adjustment, if it has too much overtravel, some pilots will push the cable hard enough to push the cable apart at the governor end. 1 Quote
PT20J Posted November 7 Report Posted November 7 Fly the airplane at cruise speed. Set the prop control to 2700 rpm. Land without adjusting prop. Turn the governor stop screw CW until it just touches the control arm. The screw is safetied with .020 lock wire and a jam nut. You might remove the lock wire before flight to avoid accidentally bumping the control arm. McCauley governors adjust about 25 rpm with each turn of the screw. 1 Quote
