Guest Posted May 11, 2024 Report Posted May 11, 2024 My number 2 cylinder is running significantly higher EGT than the others. The CHT on #2 is normal and on the lower end of that. I've check the mags to make sure that it wasn't a plug that wasn't firing. What should I check next? Should I even be concerned? It is an old IO360 that otherwise runs nicely. Could even be the gauge. It is an old GEM 602. I am ordering a new G2... Quote
Hank Posted May 11, 2024 Report Posted May 11, 2024 For a quick check, swap the probes between #2 and #4. If #2 stays high, something is going on; if it's normal and #4 is high, it's a bad sensor. Quote
Guest Posted May 11, 2024 Report Posted May 11, 2024 That will be my next check. Probe swap. Thanks. Quote

Guest Posted May 12, 2024 Report Posted May 12, 2024 I did the may check in flight after I noted the issue. No change, normal rise on all cylinders including the problem cylinder while running on each individual mag. My monitor is very old though and does not give absolute temp, just relative temps. I am in the process of ordering a new G2. The cylinder itself has good compression and looked acceptable on a bore scope inspection. Quote

Red Leader Posted May 13, 2024 Report Posted May 13, 2024 I have seen that issue twice on two different planes in the last couple of years - both times it was a leaking intake gasket causing the mixture to run lean. You might want to check it out. 1 Quote
Bartman Posted May 14, 2024 Report Posted May 14, 2024 If it is not the plug, then check the intake gasket. Shake the intake tubes and see if one is loose, especially on the offending cylinder. If that is good and you have the G2 on the way, I would wait until the installation is complete and then check and base repairs on the new readings. Quote
Guest Posted May 17, 2024 Report Posted May 17, 2024 Good idea. Swapped probes today. I will check the security of the intake tubes before I recowl and fly it this weekend. Thanks. Quote
