I recently sold some pedal extensions and some other loser tried to get payment directed to him.

And a month ago I sold some brake masters and the buyer got scammed out of a deposit.

There are bad guys amongst us, sometimes its easy to spot, sometimes not.

Are they trying to swoop in as you and redirect the payment?  I'd think that would be hard to do if you've already been in a conversation with the buyer.

The scammer saw my post on Aerodon's for sale post and sent me a DM asking me to send the money to their gmail.  I reported the profile.

In my experience this is the most polluted website I encounter. Too bad, because you want to believe it’s just a bunch of Mooney enthusiasts trying to help each other… no such luck

The above wasn't here.  He said it was on Aerodon.

It was on Mooneyspace.  Aerodon is the user who started this post.

That's what most of us are. But it's impossible to keep bots from searching and reporting back to lowlife imbeciles like this one, so he can try to squeeze in between seller and buyer. Know who you're sending money too, don't just fling it at some weird email.

This is disappointing and unexpected.  I have successfully bought from at least a dozen MooneySpacers, but I guess that's no guarantee that all future transactions will be so smooth.

It helps to know your customer… (banking rule)

It helps to know your seller…

There are known MSers….

there are 10X unknown MSers…

to see how well known somebody is…

Click on their avatar and look for two details…

1) Member since…  the longer, the better…

2) Post count…. the higher, the better…

3) A third detail… is the email address they have stored here…

if their stats are… last Tuesday, and a dozen…. This is a sign of an unknown entity… not horrible, just unknown.

if their email doesn’t match the one they have stored here… that kinda raises eyebrows…

A good buyer may arrive here by using a Google search…

a scammer may arrive here the same way…

If buying pre-flown Mooney parts…

We have a list of about four people that do this as a pseudo business… (not a full time job)

and hundreds of other MSers that offer services every day around here…

Best regards,

-a-

Several items that I've sold or wanted to buy in the last year have attract scammers.  I love them.  I like to mess with them.

Sadly my "WTB Turbo Encabulator" ad didn't generate any offers.  "My dad has one, send money to prince@nigeria.net" :P

I will never buy anything without a voice to voice phone call and I did get to talk to this guy . Must have 2 different accounts. One to do the recommendation and the other to do the scam. You must know on this site if you post any “wanted to buy” post this guy will contact you. He has a noticeable Latin American accent and does know some basics about aviation. I was looking to buy a Garmin GNC300. He talked about his avionics upgrade and almost sounded believable
