Patrick Horan Posted January 16 Report Posted January 16 As the title suggests, does anyone have a 1996 (or similar) M20M Bravo POH? I just sold my M20C and I'm picking up a Mooney Bravo Quote

LANCECASPER Posted January 17 Report Posted January 17 Indeed it is N9153Z !!!! I bought N9153Z new back in 1996. It was a factory demonstrator. Mooney President Bing Lantis used the airplane to fly back and forth from CA to TX. I bought it in September 1996. Here's a picture from around 1998. 1 Quote
Patrick Horan Posted January 17 Author Report Posted January 17 There was a small forum post about that plane here. I am super excited about owning this Bravo. 1 Quote

LANCECASPER Posted January 17 Report Posted January 17 That was the first Bravo ever, serial number 209. It was built with the -A engine but 5 days later it got the first Bravo conversion by Charlie Ward from Lycoming and then the airworthiness doc was signed. Six months later it was the first Bravo to get the larger oil drain back lines. 1 Quote
Patrick Horan Posted January 17 Author Report Posted January 17 Oh wow, this was the first ever Bravo!!! That's really cool that I'll be owning it! It seems like this plane has a lot of history Quote
Patrick Horan Posted January 17 Author Report Posted January 17 Is there any other cool facts about this airplane? I know Jimmy Garrison used to own it. I plan on putting this bravo to work! I live in both Arizona and Utah. My girlfriend is up in Oregon. I have family in New Jersey. My parents have a condo in the Caribbean! Quote
LANCECASPER Posted January 17 Report Posted January 17 The famous Jose Monroy (Monroy Long Range Fuel Tanks) @Piloto @Gagarin flew this airplane as well. I flew to Fort Lauderdale in 1997 to have Jose himself install the tanks. He flew me back to Orlando in 53Z to catch a commercial flight and I had a nice chance to visit with him. I flew back to Fort Lauderdale a week later to pick it up    I sold N9153Z to Jimmy Garrison in April 2000 when I bought a new Piper Mirage. Jimmy told me more than once that 53Z was the fastest Bravo he ever flew. Jimmy kept it as his personal airplane for about 5 years before he sold it. He's sold it at least a couple times since then. Patrick Horan Posted January 17 Author Report Posted January 17 That's amazing! I can not wait to fly it. I love that it has long range tanks and FIKI. I know the bravo official fuel with long range is 118 gal. But I know the acclaim you can put 130. If you wait a while. Can the plane fit 130? Quote

The Acclaim I have now has LR tanks also, but it'll take 130 easily. Quote

But in terms of operating and fly it effectively. Learning how to hot start the airplane, ects Quote

One thing that I installed on another Bravo I owned was a Slick Start, which helped. When you get the mags IRAN’d or overhauled use Aero aAcessories in Van Nuys. They do a great job. @donkaye @Danb @mike_elliott and @philiplane all have a lot of Bravo experience. Quote

Yea, I'm not expecting for my useful load to be high. It has FIKI and a lot of other heavy equipment. Hope I can shed some weight by getting rid of the vacuum pumps and installing a g5 or a gi275 Quote
Danb Posted January 17 Report Posted January 17 Patrick I had no issues with hot start’s although I had electronic ignition and fine wire plugs, my Bravo had about 1004 useful load. Obviously no vacuum pump etc. You should love the Bravo in my opinion the best and best valued plane made by the Mooney Factory and I own an Acclaim. I’d get good transition training from your C to the M, there is a difference down low. Flying over the country as you laid out your bravo should suit you well. I love that Lycoming power plant. Good luck D 1 Quote
mike_elliott Posted January 17 Report Posted January 17 THe Slick mags are the achilles heal of the very stout, strong IO540 AF1B engine. Keep them in top notch shape, keep the exhaust in top shape (IE REALLY spend some time inspecting it every 25 hrs at oil changes) and she will purr for a very long time. Dans replacement of one of the mags with the electronic ignition is a super addition, imo. The bravos's I have flown with it just flat run smoother and hot start easier. Dont let someone who doesnt know what they are doing jack with the DA controller. As Dan suggests, get proper transition training from someone who knows Bravos. Don or one of my guys can get you tuned up in short order. Quote

Airplanes have a nasty habit of gaining weight over the years. The logs were online from a previous time it was for sale. A previous owner had it re-weighed back in 2016. If you take their total weight away from 3368 you have a useful load of 844 pounds. Quote
