Ragsf15e Posted August 11 Author Report Posted August 11 These are amazing machines! We just did a 3 day weekend exploring the Oregon Caves, Redwood forest and N. California beach. Now we’re at 11,500’ and 139Ktas above the western smoke scooting home. Oh yeah and we’re making ~150kts ground on 8.3gph! 9 Quote

I thought of doing that! Did you use the Headsets Inc. kit? I used that on my old DC 10-13.4 years ago, thought of doing it for the child headset eventually... Now my kids are old enough to not quite fit but haven't provided replacement small aviation enthusiasts yet. Quote
BlueSky247 Posted August 12 Report Posted August 12 One step closer to having my own mooney! Flew off my first and second solo xc’s this weekend. The second was the 150 miler and involved dodging scattered rain clouds at the first stop. The views were awesome! 2 Quote

He’s awesome if you ever have headset issues! Quote
dkkim73 Posted September 28 Report Posted September 28 Today's flight (cylinder break-in continued, plus a gorgeous, unusually calm day): KBIL -> KWYS -> KBIL via the Beartooth-Absaroka wilderness, over Yellowstone National Park (northern part, higher and lower RPM), early dinner, and back: 10 Quote
Schllc Posted September 28 Report Posted September 28 I’ve flown over those areas as well and they are mesmerizing and majestic. I always vacillate between wonder at the beauty and terror at the thought of having to land if I lose my engine! Quote

MikeOH Posted September 29 Report Posted September 29 Wife and I went to breakfast this morning at Mohave (KMHV) before the day got too hot. Smooth ride both there and back (wifey happy!) Windmill farms and aircraft boneyards! 6 Quote

I went in and out of Cody from the east, up the valley to BIL VOR specifically to go around the Absarokas! @HankIt's funny you and @Schllc said those things. I looked aft on my way back and saw the sun slipping down, shadows on the peaks, and thought "Hmmm... this is a calculated risk". I actually wanted to scout the Beartooth Highway, hence the lower altitude. If it were any darker, or I was doing this regularly, I would have used the capes to get a bit more altitude. Two funny points: - Entering the mountains east of Yellowstone Lake I hadn't established Flight Following yet, so I scrambled for a bit to find a good frequency. It made me realize how much I appreciate being in radar contact in case something happens quikcy. - Coming over Bearooth pass and looking down at Red Lodge I thought "Oh good, easy glide to flat terrain". I guess it's all relative Years ago, in a normally-aspirated 182 with only a tiny yoke GPS, I was sweating bullets in this area, flying point-to-point along the valleys. Definitely would not have good over these hills! Quote

My fishing buddies and I took pictures "fishing" in a snowbank at the pass once. If memory serves, the pass is 11,900 and a few feet. Quote
