hooch77 Posted October 3, 2023 Report Posted October 3, 2023 My M20C tail was damaged by a different aircraft and its propeller. The mechanic has a M20F tail section that he can install. Per the parts book they are different part numbers. But every thing looks the same. Can you put a F model tail on a C model. Does anyone know the difference. thanks Quote
ShuRugal Posted October 3, 2023 Report Posted October 3, 2023 If you put an F tail on a C, does it also get the F VNE rating, since VNE on the C is limited by stabilizer flutter?Sent from my Pixel 5a using Tapatalk Quote

Isn't Vne the same for both? Many speeds changed throughout the production life of the models, but they're the same for the same year I thought. Quote
KSMooniac Posted October 3, 2023 Report Posted October 3, 2023 You might have to put a request in to Mooney for some research or other documentation to approve that as a repair. Sent from my LM-V600 using Tapatalk Quote
Utah20Gflyer Posted October 3, 2023 Report Posted October 3, 2023 Looks like you have an early C which has the short rudder versus the F which has the full size rudder. I believe the late C Mooneys got the full size rudder as well so the tail you have might be usable. I’d compare the F tail part number to a late C part number as that would demonstrate compatibility with the C airframe. You may also be changing from smooth elevators to ribbed or vice versa. Make sure the new tail doesn’t have the bi-metal elevator counterweights. Your IA of course will have to figure out all the legalities of the swap. Quote
EricJ Posted October 3, 2023 Report Posted October 3, 2023 It's probably possible with some coordination between the factory and a DER and whoever is doing the work. 1 Quote
