Hello again,

I’m working on a “hangar budget” to eventually purchase a Mooney M20F.  I’ve narrowed down a lot of the costs based on the Ventura County Airports web page. The one thing I can’t figure out is the approximate wait times for hangars to open up.  I saw a wait list with 16 people on it for KCMA. Oxnard is way better with only two. From what I read, Camarillo won’t even  let you put your name on the list unless you already have an airplane registered to you?

I think tie downs are available but I want to know how long I may need to keep an airplane outside.

I’ve also looked in Santa Paula. I’m on the airport email list so when a hangar opens up, I can inquire directly with the owner about it.

I tried using the search feature here to see if this had already been discussed. Excuse me if I missed a prior thread on this topic.

By the way, my last post requesting a flight got answered by a very kind member. Hopefully some day I can return the favor to someone else in my own Mooney.

Respectfully,

Marco

Before I bought my airplane, I used a mapping application to draw a 1-hour radius around my home, and put my name on every list.  Some were free, some cost me $100 to get on the list.  If that strategy had failed, I would have drawn a larger circle.  No doubt having the airplane close is a good thing, but I didn't want it to sit outside.

There are hangers for sale at both OXR and CMA. See https://cohota.org/hangars-for-sale%2Flease   The prices listed are high but if you wait around patiently a while, you can get one for a reasonable price. CMA is about twice as much as the same size at OXR.

The hangers can be owned, but the land is leased from the County. Ventura county charges the same for a tiedown or small T owned hanger of about $100 / mo.

I've owned hangers at both airports since 1987. Saved a bundle over renting a hanger over that time.
