Thinking about using these folks for a pre-buy. Any opinions?

I’d personally reconsider.  They may be geographically-convenient for you, but not necessarily the best option.

They’ve done a few pieces of work for me over the years.  One was an annual on my ownership of a previous Ovation.  At the annual (first time since I owned the airplane), they failed to diagnose an intermittent engine ‘skipping/missing’ complaint after days of troubleshooting and consulting internally.  Later, when they were installing an airwolf air/oil separator, they screwed the top of the unit down way too tight, crushing the gasket between the upper and lower halves of the separator.  This caused a leak, as the gasket shifted under the pressure of over-tightening…as corroborated by Airwolf’s tech support folks.  Additionally, when they mounted the unit, they failed to use the rubber caps between the body of the separator and the two forked mounting brackets.  This caused the bare metal mounting brackets to chafe and cut into the separator body, causing holes and subsequent oil leaks.  They also put the cylindrical retainer strap on backwards…with the rubber ring on the outside of the separator unit rather than on the inside between the “can” and the strap.  Lastly, they replaced the alternate air door magnet, which lasted about 10 hours before failing.  On inspection, they had used a common, everyday magnet that you’d find on a metal cabinet door instead of the proper factory part.  The magnet crumbled within 10 hours.  I never went back.

At the next annual, I arranged to go to Brian Kendrick in TX.  Since then, he’s done all my maintenance, and I haven’t looked back since.

Good morning,

In what part of Texas is Brian Kendrick? What is the name of his shop?

Thanks,

Torrey

Regarding Infinity:  I have a friend up there who has used them for years and not dissatisfied.

Shoreline Aviation in Marshfield put the TKS on my 231 25 years ago, and I had quite a bit of dealing with them when i sold Diamond Aircraft.  Ed Novak there always has been square biz in my experience.

He’s in San Marcos (KHYI) and works out of the McKee Avionics hangar.

What model airplane are you doing a prebuy on?  Brian Kendrick will work on Ovations and newer Mooneys.  He is exceedingly knowledgeable, works hard, is thorough, careful, can do anything on the plane, and is everything you want and need for a prebuy.  He can come and do the prebuy on location or at McKee's Hangar in San Marcos Tx.  He should be your first choice.  I have known him for over a decade when he ferried my airplane to San Marcos from Dallas.  That was its first flight in 26 years.
