RobertGary1 Posted May 16, 2023 Report Posted May 16, 2023 Just finished replacing my gear donuts. The right side was shockingly easy. The left side requires a bit more creativity to get around the squat mechanism but nothing too complex. The only real annoying issue I ran into is that the holes in the upper assembly necessary to work the collar screw out are slightly off. The head of the screw was about a fraction of a millimeter too far forward and raising the gear up and down didn't change the fore/aft alignment. Took some prying to get the screw past the access hole. Is this just me or do most people find this? -Robert Quote
FoxMike Posted May 16, 2023 Report Posted May 16, 2023 The screw hole in the collar is not in the center of the collar. The collar must be correctly placed. In other words the collar can be misassembled by placing it upside down. The handling of the airplane can be affected if the collars are not positioned properly. The nose wheel is particularly problemmatic. Worst case could be the airplane might end up in the weeds on takeoff or landing. Quote

In this case the hole in the stack isn't aligned with the frame access hole, with or without the collar. Once I cleared the frame the screw slides easily in the collar/stack hole. -Robert Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted May 16, 2023 Report Posted May 16, 2023 You can rotate the shaft that runs through the center of the disks to get the hole to line up. 1 Quote
kortopates Posted May 16, 2023 Report Posted May 16, 2023 I think Gary is referring to the access hole to clear where the head of the screw can get hung up pushing it into collar and shock disk tower. i’ve had to play with the jack to get the right compression such that the access hole is centered for head of the screw. I’ve also used the dremel too enlarge the hole a bit to make it easier.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 Quote
thinwing Posted May 16, 2023 Report Posted May 16, 2023 ive used a machined "50 cal" bullet to align the holes .The steel bullet acts as a messenger and is tapped in by hammer followed by actual bolt. 1 Quote
