mooney2201 Posted April 11, 2023 Report Posted April 11, 2023 Has anyone ever serviced the main bearings in the trim wheel housing. I don't want to remove the side housing and have everything spring out at me..I don't think they have ever been greased before...does the grease get hard. Quote
carusoam Posted April 11, 2023 Report Posted April 11, 2023 +1 for grease getting hard throughout the entire trim system… There is plenty to clean out and re grease if not done in the last decade or two… Access to most of it, is probably from below… Best regards, -a- Quote
PT20J Posted April 11, 2023 Report Posted April 11, 2023 Are you talking about the unit in the tail that drives the jackscrew, or the unit under the cockpit connected to the trim wheel by a chain? Quote
mooney2201 Posted April 12, 2023 Author Report Posted April 12, 2023 I believe there are two of these bearing housings...trim wheel and in the back near jackscrew Quote

It can often make the trim system work like brand new… PP thoughts only, not a sales guy… Best regards, -a- Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted April 12, 2023 Report Posted April 12, 2023 You will know when your trim system is well lubed and working well. It will run nose down by itself in the bumps. Quote

Best regards, -a- I know, I had to fix mine. The mount was there, but the spring and plunger were missing. Even with it, it sometimes works it’s way down a bit. You have to be one with the Mooney to notice. 1 Quote

Mine doesn't have it and the trim doesn't change in turbulence. Maybe @M20Doc knows more about the history of the brake? Skip Quote

Maybe I’ve lubed it to well. I have disassembled the jack screw down to the last bearing ball, cleaned and re-lubed it. I did the same with the front gear box including cleaning all the grease off the chain and lubing it with high quality bike chain lube. I don’t think many have gone that far. 1 Quote
