Kirch56H Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 (edited) Not sure if this should be on the classifieds or here? I’m looking for a set of split folding rear seats for my J model and I have tried all the major salvage yards already with little to no success. I have the bench rear seat now and want to upgrade to the split folding rear seat and will need all the associated parts. I have a few of the parts, but still need the major components and some of the brackets. does anyone have any recommendations of less known salvage yards where I can source this stuff or possibly know someone who has a set they’d be willing to part with? Red Leader Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 I would love to add the split rear seat to my K but since it did not originally come with one, won't there be W/B or STC updates required? Other than acquiring the parts, what would be involved in making the change? ...sorry to hijack your thread. Quote
KSMooniac Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 it is a minor modification if you ask any sensible/reasonable IA, and could be done with a simple logbook entry. All you're doing is taking certified Mooney parts from one airframe and installing them in the same fashion into a different Mooney airframe. Yes, you would need to work up a new W&B (for installed and removed configuration!) but that is within scope for an IA. Eventually I'm going to do this to my early J. I bought a salvage later J years ago in no small part to get the back seat frames & mechanisms! Prior to that, I had only seen one ad (in a MAPA magazine) for a rear seat kit with ratty upholstery for $2500. I later bought a set of salvage Bravo seats and have most of a duplicate kit for the rears, but I sadly did not get all of the parts needed. Once I get those remaining parts bought or fabricated, I'll sell my first set of J seats. Quote
glbtrottr Posted March 30, 2023 Report Posted March 30, 2023 I’ve been trying to get the rear seat cushions for split seats for a while. I don’t need them covered - they’re getting redone. I only need the aluminum piece which is oddly called a “headrest” since I have gotten bottom cushions. Hector wants $1100 for ratty old cushions with the insert…Are the inserts the same on a J and K model as they are in a bravo or ovation?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
KSMooniac Posted March 30, 2023 Report Posted March 30, 2023 I believe the seat cushions (butt and back) are all interchangeable throughout the years. The first gen (very late in the 1981 product year, standard in 1982) had the high back fiberglass back panels (plus foam & covering) with integrated head rest, and at some point in the late 80s it changed to a more normal height seat back plus separate head rest. All that to say I believe you could take much newer Ovation rear seat cushions and slip them into a 1982 J or K... Quote
