I had my gfc500 software updated today.  Probably 30 minutes including paperwork.

did anyone really disable their autopilot per the SB?  My avionics said most of his customers didn’t.

I didn’t. I never had a problem, and since it was reported to only happen during engagement, I just watched it perhaps a little more carefully.

Actually, I always assume that the autopilot’s hidden desire is to kill me. I watch it carefully when turning it on or switching modes and I keep my hand on the yoke and a finger ready near the disconnect inside the FAF on an approach.

Yeah, same here.  Didn’t know if I was the only one to continue using the autopilot.  Lee

I did the same, but I guess only a year into having an autopilot I'm still new and always have a hand lightly on the yoke regardless of phase of flight, unless I'm reaching into the bag on the back seat for something to eat.

I’m looking at a plane today with G5/GFC-500 and supposedly it was updated with the new SW. I’m assuming it’s as easy to verify by checking for v8.02. Is that correct?

Garmin has a page somewhere….

listing latest software revisions…

To see how this is done… standby for somebody that knows…or ask Skip!  :)

Great question!

I found @PT20J’s post showing v8.02 is the fix, so I’m good to go now, I think.

I had mine updated, it worked fine before, and now i have this:

AP, YD, TER, TRIM all red X

nothing works, and i also have no electric trim.

The crossfill database connext update does not work. i can update the GTN but not the GI275s

the USB port on the GI 275's wont take a usb update, tried all the ways and multiple sticks.

its essentially bricked the system.

I regret going with Garmin at this point.

Yikes…

Have you found Trek Lawler?

Often found hanging around BT…

Its going back to avionics on the 20th.

ill wait until then to bother Trek.

this is the third issue ive had with this thing since install.

exasperating.

Makes me angry on your behalf.  Nothing worse than spending an obscene amount of money, and not getting much utility from the new stuff.  From the experiences I read here, I'm not yet persuaded to spend 80 or 100 AMU on toys that may not work as well as the old stuff.

It’s tough selecting the best installer option…

Garmin shop on the home field… or Garmin shop that did a nice Mooney panel 50nm away… or Garmin shop in Florida with best price…

I have known my favorite avionics tech for almost 30years… we were young once…

There must be 1k wires that can be the challenge…

80-100AMUs… makes a fancy color panel!

Makes no sense. Didn't the dealer check it after installing? They must have screwed something up during the installation.

Runaway trim???

That can end disastrously…

We lost ‘snoopy’ an M20K, fortunately pilot and copilot are still with us…

Snoopy lost its trim in a nose low situation…

Lots of exhausting arm strength required to maintain control…

Snoop lost the battle on the runway pavement…

Scary situation…

Also a good reason to have those color CB identifiers… :)
