SLOWR426 Posted January 6, 2023 Report Posted January 6, 2023 Hi all, looking to get rid of the Ram Air on my '67 F. I thought I ran across an STC that added an exterior shut-off plate, but I can't find it. Anyone know if there's a kit or STC, etc? Thanks much

It works pretty well on my 68F. I see ~.75 mp increase with it open and a couple extra knots. Very low maintenance. Do you have the stock intake and filter? 2
MikeOH Posted January 6, 2023 Report Posted January 6, 2023 I'll echo Ragsf15e, mine works fine on my '70F; I see about 3/4" increase, as well. Never crossed my mind to remove it. 1

We continue to have issues with the ram door staying shut even after adjustments, it's a pain to remove the front cowl. Yes, stock filter and intake. Any recommendations appreciated.
KSMooniac Posted January 6, 2023 Report Posted January 6, 2023 Mooney released a SB or SI to eliminate it on the J, where it was completely ineffective. The last of the J's did not have it installed at the factory. It is quite effective on the E/F models due to the sub-optimal induction system, so I would encourage you to keep it. Unfortunately it is a maintenance item to keep it in good condition...Sent from my LM-V600 using Tapatalk 1

A simple addition of a slight bend in the cable should help. I the cable losing back too? I rebuilt mine once and it has held up for over 20 years. I rarely remove the front or lower cowl. It is just not necessary to do work or annual. It also destroys the air intake boot. Many new to the Mooney want to remove it for every annual, there is no need. As others said, the ram air on vintage Mooneys truly works. You are giving up performance by removing it. 2
rickseeman Posted January 6, 2023 Report Posted January 6, 2023 I always considered it to be one of the best features of the F. 2

I had the same problem and reason was the control cable outer shell gets worn and creeping aft due to less clamp friction resulting in door opening. My solution was to safety wire it hence not allowing cable relative movement to the clamp... A new cable outer shell would help but I didn't need to replace it. Is it really original, Donaldson filter? My understanding is that it's not available and replacement is Bracket. 1
M Terry Posted January 8, 2023 Report Posted January 8, 2023 If yours is like mine, the mechanism has to go "over center" in order to stay closed while in flight. 1
