merlin Posted January 4, 2023 Report Posted January 4, 2023 I notice in the pilot side seat, my back rest seems to lean to the right and feels floppy on the right half. Anyone know the mechanics of the inside seat and if they are split in half? Any quick fixes or is this a pull apart and redo? Thanks in advance to all my Mooney friends! Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted January 4, 2023 Report Posted January 4, 2023 The seat design changed over the years. I believe yours is a sheet metal assembly. To repair it you have to remove all the upholstery and replace or repair the broken pieces. When I had my F the seat back did the same thing. I gave the seat back to the Sheetmetal guy at the local shop and he made it like brand new for $150, but that was a long time ago. If you aren't adept at sheet metal work, make friends with the EAA. 2 Quote
outermarker Posted January 4, 2023 Report Posted January 4, 2023 Could this be due to the metal tab that rides on the seat adjusting cam falling inside the cam instead of resting on the cam? Quote

I also had my seat do that on a ‘68F. I had a local mechanic carefully take apart the seat and install a doubler on the broken piece. Good as new. 1 Quote
DXB Posted January 4, 2023 Report Posted January 4, 2023 Same issue on my '68 C - had to have it de-upholstered before welding a doubler onto the broken vertical piece in the metal frame. An aircraft upholstery shop handled it, sending to a welder in the area. They did a nice job for a few hundred bucks. 1 Quote
