Jpravi8tor Posted May 14, 2022 Report Posted May 14, 2022 Just try to go out and buy a new battery! There is no stock available for your typical lead acid wet battery. There is stock for dry batteries but no acid available apparently there’s a worldwide shortage of sulfuric acid. Anybody got any acid they wanna part with? I even thought about using automotive battery acid the thought being that acid is acid but automotive battery acid is 1.265 versus aviation batteries which are 1.285 specific gravity. apparently most of the sulfuric acid for batteries is produced from Chilean zinc. A64Pilot Posted May 14, 2022 Report Posted May 14, 2022 Your probably about the first person I’ve spoken to that knew aircraft batteries require a stronger acid. Having said that stay away from wet batteries, fly long enough and one will leak on you and that acid isn’t kind on aircraft materials Quote

Look around and you can eventually find a concorde rg-35axc (if you’re 12V) at one of the smaller aviation suppliers. That’s what you want. I wouldn’t mess with anything else unless yours is totally dead. This link at the concorde site says “distributors with stock”. You might just need to start dialing… https://www.aircraft-battery.com/search-by-your-aircraft/battery_detail/159 1 Quote
Jpravi8tor Posted May 15, 2022 Author Report Posted May 15, 2022 Yeah I went to the battery box and the box was empty, it wouldn’t have mattered the aircraft hadn’t moved in 15 years! So my dilemma is get the airplane somewhat close to airworthy and able to test the motor Quote

I think you’ll find a Concord if you call around. Quote
Jpravi8tor Posted May 15, 2022 Author Report Posted May 15, 2022 But does it have a “Go” handle for $436.00? Quote
KSMooniac Posted May 15, 2022 Report Posted May 15, 2022 Concorde RG-35AXC is what you want. I think my local distributor (Airparts Company Inc in Wichita) has some. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk Quote

RobertGary1 Posted May 15, 2022 Report Posted May 15, 2022 Could it just be because it’s an unpopular type of battery today? The only reason I’ve heard for those batteries even still being sold in the last 10 years is because low volume sellers can shelve them longer Quote
A64Pilot Posted May 15, 2022 Report Posted May 15, 2022 However for just determining if the engine would run after 15 years of sitting, I believe I just connect jumper cables from my car to the battery wires, or maybe use a car battery. Not to fly with of course just for testing. Sounds like this could be a big project and those sometimes take a long time, don’t pop $400 on a battery until you know what you have Of course pre-oil the motor well before you turn the prop Quote
Jpravi8tor Posted May 15, 2022 Author Report Posted May 15, 2022 First time it ever loaded a picture upside down? I even saved the picture upside down and tried to insert but it was still upside down!? Quote

Yeah, it’s beyond me. ‘Usually someone will fix it, it’s not just you What I was trying to say is before you drop $400 on a battery that could possibly be sitting on a shelf for awhile, use a car battery etc for ground runs and drop the $400 when you think your close to flying 1 Quote
