Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and wasn't sure where to post this...

I just recently purchased a 1977 Mooney M20J with a partner.  I am looking for a local CFI/I preferably in the Phoenix area; the plane is based at KGEU for now.  I have my CFI/I rotorcraft helicopter and work as a Helicopter Air Ambulance pilot with just over 3,000 hours helicopter.  I recently (June 2021) added a ASEL PPL in a C172 and am just shy of 100 hours fixed wing.  I have zero time in model and zero retract time.  What I am looking for first is to take as many hours dual as needed to get comfortable with a fast complex machine, second meet insurance requirements before I can carry passengers and third add-on Instrument ASEL.  Looking for an experienced Mooney person to really help me learn the ins and outs of my new to me aircraft.

Thanks for the help and really excited to join the mooney community

Great first post David!

Start here…

Then find the MooneyFlyer…

https://themooneyflyer.com/cfi.html

That covers most of the known CFIIs for Mooney transition training…

Then standby for the usual parade of recommendations by people familiar with your area…

I think Rich may know everyone in the area out there…

You have come to the right place…

Go MS!

:)

Really important note… your pic indicates you have a tailgater… don’t brake too hard… that could get really expensive….  :)

Thank you for the quick reply, I tried the search function but clearly am not good at navigating forums.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction

Our forum navigation tools aren’ ready yet…. :)

Often, it is better to use Google to find things around here…

Google is pretty powerful and can find three letter words…

So…

Try the search first…

Most basic issues have been covered at least once in the last decade…

Then ask… MS is world wide… and runs 24/7…

Wait until you see how many helicopter pilots we have around here…

Many with military backgrounds…

Best regards,

I do a reasonable amount of Mooney transition training but the above will take a lot more hours than I can devote to it. There are a handful of Mooney CFIs in AZ so I'm sure you'll find someone that works for your needs.

Rene (602-614-0504) owns a Mooney and is a CFI.

He has never owned a Mooney. He has fixed up a few over the years for other people. He is a good Mooney instructor with plenty of Mooney time.
