xcrmckenna Posted January 20, 2022 Report Posted January 20, 2022 Hey, hope everyone is flying lots this year. I’m looking for a paint shop in California that has experience painting mooneys. Thanks for any help. Hopefully I’ll be flying again in the next year… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
201Mooniac Posted January 20, 2022 Report Posted January 20, 2022 Definitely check out ArtCraft at Santa Maria. They did a great job on my M20J and it still looks good after 13 years. They have painted many Mooney's, several on this list. 2
carusoam Posted January 20, 2022 Report Posted January 20, 2022 Start with the Mooney favorite… ArtCraft… Ilya posted nice videos of his recent experience… Mitch has been there more than once… Patrick flew from NJ just to go there… MooneyGirl’s forever-plane was painted there… -a- 2
ZuluZulu Posted January 20, 2022 Report Posted January 20, 2022 Corona Air Paint has a Mooney in their photo gallery, also. http://coronaairpaint.com 1
Niko182 Posted January 20, 2022 Report Posted January 20, 2022 I've heard nightmares from corona. I don't know If I'd go there personally. 1
Joe Larussa Posted January 21, 2022 Report Posted January 21, 2022 I had mine painted at Corona about 2 years ago. Can’t say I would do it again.

I’ll make an educated guess they’ve transformed well over 70 Mooney’s over the past many years. Definitely study the thread Anthony provided..... study not only the videos, but read my advice I’ve offered from 3 experiences at Artcraft, along with me helping others through the paint process at this shop. You’ll love the end result! P.S. I have no financial, or other beneficial relationship with Artcraft and the nice folks there. My information is strictly based on my experiences ( and others). 2
Marc_B Posted January 21, 2022 Report Posted January 21, 2022 Seem like the two most common recommendations I see here on MS are for Hawk and Artcraft. I’ve also seen a list from Scheme Designers with recommended shops they’ve worked with. Of course both of the above are listed: https://schemedesigners.com/paint-shop-referral-list/ Is the work by these shops similar? Meaning process, procedures, prep work, cowl repair, corrosion treatment and long term durability/quality… seems there are many things besides just final paint that contribute to a quality job. I think prep work and attention to detail (ie removing control surfaces/access panels, etc) are huge. For a mid continent pilot what’s your deciding point? West or east? (of course I realize OP asked about California so makes more sense to stay close all things else being =)

Igor_U Posted January 21, 2022 Report Posted January 21, 2022 Not in CA but Matthews Aviation in Yerington, NV painted my M20F almost in 2007. Even today, I get a complement on a paint job I have which counts as all 9well, most) new paint jobs look great. They used to have lower pricing then AirCraft (or Corona) at the time and were easy to work with. They drove me to RNO to fly back home and picked me up when the job was done. Obviously, this was almost 15y ago so YMMV. Good luck 1
Tommooney Posted January 22, 2022 Report Posted January 22, 2022 Two of my hanger neighbors had their planes ( Arrow and Tiger ) painted by Artcraft in the last two weeks. They are very proud and satisfied. About 20 AMU with a few extra stuff like hail repair, wx strip , etc. About 5 weeks away from home. To be honest, they really look nice, like a newly repainted car but you know how repainted cars don't usually look as good as a factory paint? I bet you know what I mean..... Just a novice observation...Why can't 20 AMU look better than new? Good luck Tom 1
Flash Posted January 22, 2022 Report Posted January 22, 2022 T&P Aero Refinishers in Salinas does first-rate work. They weren't fast or cheap, but you should consider them, nonetheless. 1

PeteMc Posted January 22, 2022 Report Posted January 22, 2022 I used Prestige in VT (basically Canada). I've used Ed's Aircraft in the past for some touch up stuff. Also great by tough schedule, at least when I called.

xcrmckenna Posted February 9, 2022 Author Report Posted February 9, 2022 I’m a little disappointed in Artcraft. Brenda called me two Mondays ago after it had been two weeks after requesting a quote. She said she would get back to me that Tuesday and now after a week she is ghosting me. Hopefully they are just really busy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
