MikeOH Posted January 11, 2022 Report Posted January 11, 2022 Damn! THAT is going to take a lot of buffing compound Quote
cliffy Posted January 11, 2022 Report Posted January 11, 2022 The pilot is an acquaintance of mine and belongs to the same flying group I do in LA. He has facial injuries requiring surgery yesterday but recovery should go well No info on what caused the crash I know the area well as I have flown out of there for over 50 years. Interesting airport history especially back half a century ago. He and the police officers are very lucky Quick decisions by the officers saved his life. 3 2 Quote
MooneyMitch Posted January 11, 2022 Report Posted January 11, 2022 Such greatness from the officers! So delighted for your friend. Quote

Glad to hear he'll be okay, and looking forward to hearing what happened. The accident investigation may have gotten...complicated, though. Quote
201Steve Posted January 12, 2022 Report Posted January 12, 2022 That’s not a real heavy airplane they coulda just pushed it off no? Either way. He’s safe. What a story. Can you imagine? What are the odds you crash a plane and get hit by a train in the same day!? 1 Quote

Not heavy, but one can imagine it's easy for the airframe to get hung up on things that stick out of the ground 1 Quote

carusoam Posted January 12, 2022 Report Posted January 12, 2022 Did anyone catch the tail number? I was trying to look up what the plane was… It appears to shatter like a composite structure. Or it got hit so hard the aluminum shattered. -a- Quote
cliffy Posted January 12, 2022 Report Posted January 12, 2022 As of today pilot out of surgery in normal room and eating a little apple sauce. Recovery looks good right now. 4 1 Quote

Mcstealth Posted January 12, 2022 Report Posted January 12, 2022 I know nothing of railroad procedures, but just listening to that video clip, it "sounds" as if that train was full tilt boogie at impact. I could not detect any deceleration or braking. Maybe there was braking, I don't know but one would think........ Quote
cliffy Posted January 12, 2022 Report Posted January 12, 2022 I may "hear" something along these lines in the next day or so. Quote
