MARZ Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 The love of my life bought me a sport video camera for Christmas, this is one of those cameras that are used on helmet cams etc. I'm still experimenting with the settings and such, I think this will be an excellent chance to share some of the beauty of flight we experience with my friends. It is also an unforgiving critic when it comes to ones performance review. I've uploaded one of my (ahem) good (ahem) landings (I was positive I was on center) but to my defense it was pretty windy yesterday. It's going to be a great learning tool as well Quote
Txbyker Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Good job. I have the Contour. Wish they could eliminate prop effects. I mounted mine up high on the windshield and got good performance. It would be cool to mount it outside to view the gear going up and down. Quote
DanM20C Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 I have had a GoPro Hero for some time now. I took great videos during our trip to the Bahamas. I mounted the camera on the bottom of my Step (fixed). But I never did figure out a good way to edit the videos and get them on youtube. What software do you use? Your video looked great. Dan Quote
231Pilot Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Centerlines are nice....I try to hit them every time....but I don't. On a windy day you landed smoothly, no jolts, bounces, porpoises, or other exhibitions of poor form. I would take that on a windy day. Nice camera. I've been thinking about getting one of those for about a year. Now you've gone and made it tougher for me to not do it. Thanks. When I was researching the cameras I saw the contour Nflight cam that had a filter that reduced or elimnated the prop bend - maybe it will work with yours. Not to sure on mounting the camera outside yet.... have to find a failsafe in case the suction cup lets go. Quote

Joe Zuffoletto Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 Here's some cool Acclaim Type S footage shot with a GoPro mounted on the radio antenna near the top of the vertical stabilizer. I bought a GoPro because of this and plan to try it myself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utQ_tXNegs0 Quote
MARZ Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 They have something called a skeleton case http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?is=REG&sku=742431&Q=&O=&A=details Quote
Hank Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 There is also something called a "drill" that may be used on a non-skeleton case to put hole(s) where desired. [sorry, I couldn't resist! :-) ] Quote
MARZ Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 LOL - yea but then there'd be that pesky chewing gum plug when you wanted it to be waterproof again Quote
jdrake Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 I've had good luck with my good old panasonic camera placed on the glare shield. Still can't figure out how to get rid of the prop "interference". It connects to the intercom via a basic 1/4" phone plug. Quote
Joe Zuffoletto Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 I had lunch yesterday with a buddy who's a video expert. He says the prop effect we see in so many cameras these days is due to the way the CMOS sensor captures each frame. Basically, it paints the frame onto the sensor one line at a time, similar to a television, and that's what causes the prop effect. The only solution is to get a CMOS sensor that paints the entire frame at once. These sensors exist in very high end cameras such as Red. He says it will be a year or two before they trickle down to consumer grade cameras. Quote
