BillC Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 I removed the cowling from my 1979 201 today. On the right side of the firewall just above where the right cowl flap is located, there is a spring attached to the firewall. It was just hanging down not connected to anything. It looks like it may have been placed there to hook onto the cowl flap attach point to assist in holding the cowl flap closed. My Mooney parts and service manual does not show this spring. Should it be there? Has anyone else seen this spring? Was it a modification placed there because the low pressure area under the cowl pulls the cowl flaps open in flight? Before I close up the cowl I'm wondering if I should attach it where I think it was or eliminate it. Thanks for your input. BillC Quote
OR75 Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 I know what spring you are talking about. Also there on the right side only. Not sure why it is there (not a very strong spring) but I would just put it back where it was. Quote
BillC Posted December 5, 2011 Author Report Posted December 5, 2011 Thank you OR75. The picture is a great help since it was not attached by the previous mechanic(s). BillC Quote
