1001001 Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 I'll be visiting St. Louis in the coming week, and not having flown there before, I'm looking for recommendations for a good place to park my 201 for a couple of nights. Looks like KSUS is closest to my destination, there are three FBOs listed by AOPA there. Can anyone offer their experiences with them, and recommend one that is good for single engine piston aircraft, and preferably knows how (or how not to) treat a Mooney on the ground? Looking at the fuel prices, Aero Jet Charter comes in way lower for 100LL than Million Air and TAC Air, which is usually an indication of who wants the piston single business. Any experiences with them? Quote
toto Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 I've had great experience with TACAir at Spirit, but only for day trips. I haven't stayed with them for any length of time. Quote
carusoam Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 Where is our MSer with the calico Mooney..? His avatar has the arch and his plane in form flight... Best regards, -a- Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 I have always used KSUS. I don't remember which FBO I used, but I do remember a good experience. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 Just now, N201MKTurbo said: I have always used KSUS. I don't remember which FBO I used, but I do remember a good experience. Actually, I did use KCPS once. It was good too. It is in a iffy part of town, but you aren't staying at the airport. Quote
toto Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 KCPS was always my preferred destination for downtown. At some point they got rid of courtesy cars and started offering short term rentals - which adds a fair amount of cost for a quick turn and lunch. But still awfully convenient for downtown. But OP is headed to Chesterfield or wherever. Quote
Rwsavory Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 Spirit of St. Louis is an excellent airport if you’re staying on the West side of town. I was last there in 2017, and we used Aero Jet. I don’t recall anything specific about them, but it was a very smooth trip. Quote
1001001 Posted May 9, 2021 Author Report Posted May 9, 2021 (edited) Thanks for the replies! I checked out KCPS too, but it's not really close to where I'm staying or where we'll be visiting (to the west side of the city). SUS seems closest. Edit: I'll be meeting some friends who are staying in the Kirkland area, west of the downtown area. Edited May 9, 2021 by 1001001 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 I remember in 2005 I stopped there for the night on the way to New York. I had a collogue with me so I asked approach for a tour of down town. He said "Stand By". He came back a bit later and asked "You promise to not fly under the arch? I need a readback". I said "I promise to not fly under the arch". He gave me an awesome tour at 1500 feet. 1 Quote
Z W Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 KSUS is great and easy, and a no-brainer if it's the closest to your destination. Million Air has always treated me well. Nice courtesy cars. Echo what others have said about KCPS, it's fine too and a little closer to downtown if that's where you're going. Quote

Best regards, -a- I think I’m the calico Mooney you’re referencing, lol. Raggedy Anne may not be a looker, but she performs well where it counts! I’ve always used Tac air. They run the self serve pumps so they waive their handling fee with 10 gallons of self serve. I’ve had great service with them and they have always had the lowest fees when I called to check. I also recommend the arch route. They send you right over the River nice and low. Bonus if you can do it in formation and get some great pics. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted May 11, 2021 Report Posted May 11, 2021 @skydvrboy You are the best! Proof that a good avatar picture is important to have... Go Raggedy Anne! Of course, I have also met skydvrboy at Mooney Summit... where we discussed all things Mooney and Mooney updates... This Avatar picture is one of the best MS has. Thanks for helping me fill in the memory details! Best regards, -a- Quote
jlunseth Posted May 11, 2021 Report Posted May 11, 2021 KCPS for me too. Been there a few times. Very convenient to downtown and my trips have all been to some destination downtown. Jet Aviation was fine, don’t remember any problems. Get a good map if you are going to drive downtown. It is a very short drive, just across the river, but the route is a little convoluted. Go visit the Anheuser Busch brewery if it is open. I also remember a street that is a short walk from the heart of downtown, down along the river, good restaurants. Don’t know if they are presently open with Covid though. Quote
BKlott Posted May 14, 2021 Report Posted May 14, 2021 You might take a look at Creve Coeur (1H0). There is a great GA museum on the field, self serve fuel and they did have rental car availability the last time I was there...but that was pre-COVID and probably 7-8 years ago. Quote
