LOCATION CHANGE - We'll now meet up for lunch at FDK - Frederick - @ HIGH NOON - 12:00 on SUNDAY.

Upon landing and taxing up to the FBO - switch to 130.275 - I'll be monitoring both the unicom and that frequency on a handheld to get us parked together.  My cell phone is (240) 994-2547.

Fuel discount negotiated - 20 cents off full service for 5.85 or self serve @ 5.30 (no discount on self serve)

Take care,

-Seth

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know I spoke about it in a post a few weeks ago, and I now have a bit of time to organize a lunch fly in open to anyone who wants to come. MD, VA, DE, PA, WV, NC, NJ, NY feel free to fly as long as it isn't too far!

The dates will be either Sunday, November 13th or Sunday, November 20th.  Georgetown, DE (GED) has is a good restaurant and tie down area - you get a fuel discount at the restuarant and I'll see if we can arrange a special additional discount.  We can also try Caimbrge, MD (CGE).  They have a reputationf or quite a brunch, but I haven't been there in a long time.  Both are on the east side of the Bay, and both have long runways.    Both our OUTSIDE the SFRA if this bothers anyone, but you need to take the SFRA course as you'll be within 100 miles most likely.

Please list your name, aircraft N number, and about how many people you'll bring so I can negotiate to get us some sort of food and fuel discount.  Also, please list the date you want, and which airport you want - once we get some responses, I'll make the decision and it'll be official.  I know some people will have a scheduling conflict with whatever the final date is, but you'll just make it next time.  Also, this does not have to be mooney specific - invite your friends, and any airplane is fine.  It'll be nice to put some names with faces.

Also, this is for just lunch - we may start turning this into something all together different in the future, but for now, just lunch and getting together.  We'll plan to sit down for lunch at 11:30 AM.  I'll be there a tad earlier.

12:00 on the 20th at FDK - Again, if you sign up and can't make it later, no hard feelings:

Name, Number of people, Tail number

1.  Seth, 1 or 2, N1165N

2.  John, N4352H

3.  Mike, 1 to 3, N4361H - VFR only

4.  Ross, 2, N6339Q - Out - can't make it

5.  Paul, 1 or 2, N231HY

6.  Chuck, 1, N57663 (he might instead fly over in his Cessna 414)

7.  Alex - M20C - may ride up with Seth

If you guys pick a north MD, or want to join some folks in south NJ, we can probably make a big get together?

If not this time around, maybe on the next one.

Best regards,

Mike, 1 to 3, N4361H, either date, GED, VFR only

It's a bit far out for me to be sure that nothing else comes up or how many people will join me. However, if able I'd like to come and will keep this fly in in mind. This is why I don't mind the date too much either way. As for location, doesn't matter too much either cause I haven't been to both and from the distance I'm flying it doesn't change much. Not interested in gas unless it's below $5.10 but if it helps your wholesale barter, I can probably take 50-80 gallons depending on what I run it down to by that point. Keep me posted.

I'd love to come, but I'm picking up the plane from tank reseal on the 18th, and once I get home we're off to see the inlaws for Thanksgiving Week.

Can we do this again? The weather usually sucks pretty bad between here and MD in Jan and Feb, although I did make the Gatlinburg trip in Feb of this year. You just never can tell.

MRB would have been a nice place to have lunch, but with the cold soon to be winter weather, WV Ice-Fog, I just decided for our first lunch get together the flat Delaware land around GED makes sense.  Even in lower cielings, you can easiy take a trip VFR out there as there are no mountains whatsoever.  Plus, seeing that is near the coast, even if it is cold, most likely it will be above freezing during the day.

So, this lunch will be at GED - NY/NJ crew - we'll plan a good more Northern get together in the futuere.  This is the first of hopefully a good string of many periodic lunch fly-ins.

Also, let's plan for the 20th (Hank - I know that doesn't help you out too much - we will do this again!).

11:30 for lunch - I'll get there early to set up and assist parking - That's why I want the tail numbers - the list for fuel discounts , potential tracking on flight aware, and so I can hear you coming in on my handheld radio).

1.  Seth, 1 or 2, N1165N

2.  John, N4352H

3.  Mike, 1 to 3, N4361H - VFR only

4.  Ross, 2, N6339Q

I'll also talk to the MSC over at Freeway W00 and post something on the wall - quite a few Mooney pilots on the field there that are not on MooneySpace.com (we'll have to remedy that).  I'll also talk to Chuck Swim at KGAI and another Mooney Pilot I met who owns an Ovation and flies into GED for lunch often.  Again, feel free to invite your non-Mooney pilot buddies as well.

Take care,

-Seth

Ya'll have fun! I'll catch you next time.

P.S.--the only "freezing fog" I've ever heard broadcast on AWOS, and actually flew by to look at before heading home still hungry, was at Portsmouth, OH [KPMH]. At pattern altitude, the ridgeline was visible, the airport was not, and you could see the ice crystals shining in the fog bank. 15 minutes out, 5 minutes to admire the danger, 15 minutes home, drive to Bob Evans. At least I got my flying in for the day. After we ate, PMH was advising "skies clear." Sometimes my timing is just not very good!

I read on the Florida forums get together page that they call a few days in advance to give headcounts and such - I was planning to do that, but I liked what they wrote, so I have copied it:

"No one is obligated to come if they can't make it for mechanical, weather, health, or any other reason."

Again, the idea is to get local Mooney pilots and pilots in general together.  But, please do not feel you have to make it if there is a pressing need that could cause a negative result - this lunch should be at the bottom of any pressing needs analysis.  I would HATE for an NTSB report to say that the pilot felt pressure to get to lunch with buddies at GED on the 20th.

That said, we're still on - Sunday, November 20th at 11:30 for lunch.

Feel free to add your name to the list - NJ is not that far away - right over the Delware Bay!

1.  Seth, 1 or 2, N1165N

2.  John, N4352H

3.  Mike, 1 to 3, N4361H - VFR only

4.  Ross, 2, N6339Q

2.  John, N4352H

3.  Mike, 1 to 3, N4361H - VFR only

I understand life gets in the way sometimes - again, no worries about the cancellations - we are however STILL ON

This SUNDAY @ 11:30

John, if you are going to be there, I have no problem switching the venue to FDK - but only if that's okay with the others - It is VERY close to both Camp David (P-40) and the SFRA, so make sure you are where you are supposed to be.  If you have no issues following your progress on a sectional, you should be fine.

Vote, switch to FDK?  or NO, go with GED.  Again, I'm fine with BOTH - just let me know your thoughts.  If it doesn't matter to you, then it's a switch to FDK.

John, if we do switch to FDK, would 11:30 still work?

Still in:

1.  Seth, 1,  N1165N

2.  Mike, 1 to 3, N4361H - VFR only

3.  Paul, 1 or 2, N231HY

4.  Chuck, 1, N57663 (he might instead fly over in his Cessna 414)

5.  Alex, 2, MABYE - M20C based at KGAI or W50 (Davis)

Out:

John, N4352H - Unless we change to FDK

Ross - N6339Q

Take care,

Peter said he'll be in KGED Sunday by coincidence on personal business. To me it doesn't make a whole lot of difference as look as I'm sure it will be a worthwhile fly in. Once I'm going xcountry, 10 minutes here and there doesn't make a heck of a difference.

LOCATION CHANGE

We'll now be meeting over at FDK @ NOON

This way John can still meet up with us (and bring at least one of his sons, maybe both) and as long as the rest of us are flying, it's not a huge difference distance wise.  The time was pushed back slightly, but we have a reservation at the restaurant all set up at noon.

I've also negotiated a small fuel discount.  Self serve is $5.30 but they'll give us a 20 cent dicsount off their full service truck to $5.85.

When you arrive, switch over to 130.275.  I'll have my handheld radio and simply ask for where the Mooney Fly-In is parking - we'll get you to the correct area.  When looking at the main FBO building from the ramp, the restaurant is the next building down on the left.  We'll probably end up parking down to the right however.  Again, just jump on 130.275.  I'll also be monitoring the Unicom Frequency - if you forget the separate frequency for the FBO, just let me know and I'll give it to you over the Unicom Frequency.  See you SUNDAY at NOON.  If you get there a few minutes early that's fine.

My mobile number is (240) 994-2547.  I'll be able to check MooneySpace during the day, but will not post once I'm up there.

Still in:

1.  Seth, 1,  N1165N

2.  Mike, 1 to 3, N4361H - VFR only

3.  Paul, 1 or 2, N231HY

4.  Chuck, 1, N57663 (he might instead fly over in his Cessna 414)

5.  Alex, 2, MABYE - M20C based at KGAI or W50 (Davis) - May also fly in with Seth

6.  John, 2 or 3 -  N4352H - Based at FDK

Out:

Ross - N6339Q (and if you can make it, we'd love to see you).

Take care,

The time change is a bigger problem for me than the destination change because I have to leave no later than 1PM to get somewhere. The extra distance doesn't help either. Would it be alright to keep it at 11:30 to start? I expect to be getting there around 11AM anyway. And I'm confirming for 2 people, no fuel.

Posted

Mike-  Come on by at 11:00 like you planned, and you'll head out when you need to - no issue there at all.  I'll be there a bit before 11:00 as well.  Whoever gets there before noon can sit down and start.  I don't expect the food to take more than 45 min anyway, so you should easily be able to depart at 1:00.

If you get there before me, just call up the frquency noted, 130.275 and if I'm not already on the radio, ask the FBO where they want the Mooney Flight to park.

Take care,

-Seth

If this is Chuck Swim...his 201 is based FDK. N57663. I used to lease it from GAI and have logged 40 hours in it . Awesome 201. Chuck also has a partner...a physician in Rockville. There are 4 other Mooney owners based nearby FDK, but I don't have access to their info on short notice. We get the next time.

ROSS!!! Come have a hamburger!!!
