V1VRV2 Posted November 27, 2020 Report Posted November 27, 2020 CH48108-1 Champion? Any other recommendations for brand of filter? Quote
Steve2 Posted November 28, 2020 Report Posted November 28, 2020 I've been using Tempest filters for years with no problems. Substitute the CH with AA & don't worry about the number after the '-', they're a few $$ cheaper. 3 1 Quote

carusoam Posted November 28, 2020 Report Posted November 28, 2020 For O engine questions... I always invite @StevenL757... (oil filter) Personally, Champion is a tough choice... variable resistor spark plugs went on too long... too little, too few, reasearch/product improvements in the brand’s stable... Niko182 Posted November 28, 2020 Report Posted November 28, 2020 Ive always used the 48109. 1 1 Quote

EricJ Posted November 28, 2020 Report Posted November 28, 2020 I switched from the Champions to the Tempest and like them a lot better. The pre-lubed gasket is nice. 1 1 Quote
bmcconnaha Posted November 28, 2020 Report Posted November 28, 2020 https://www.aviationconsumer.com/subscriber-only/spin-on-oil-filters-champion-or-tempest-2/ Run whatever you want. Both are fine. I’ve interchanged both for years, but usually come back to champion filters. The same can not be said for spark plugs unfortunately. Tempest all the way Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 1 Quote
V1VRV2 Posted November 28, 2020 Author Report Posted November 28, 2020 Thanks for your input. Just ordered a bunch of Tempest filters. Quote
GeeBee Posted November 29, 2020 Report Posted November 29, 2020 We had some folks from Tempest come and give a presentation at our EAA meeting. They basically took over the old Autolite facility, to start their company. They are very good folks who care deeply about the quality of their products. They are proud to go up against "Goliath" and build a better product and they have done just that. Their spark plugs have proven better and I buy their filters because I like to support small business, especially in aviation. We need more competition. 3 Quote
buddy Posted November 29, 2020 Report Posted November 29, 2020 I’ve been using Tempest oil filters in mine and buy them by the case (6 in a case). 1 Quote

Just ordered last week. I usually carry a couple of boxes and replenish when I get down to around 2 or 3 filters remaining. Quote

I love to support smaller companies that do a better job. I have removed anything Champion in my plane and replaced with Tempest. 1 Quote
rpyle Posted May 18, 2023 Report Posted May 18, 2023 I find it interesting that the Mooney Service Manual reverse to a CH48109 (REplace your CH with AA if you like Tempest) and people here are pointing the shorter XX48108. The filter media is smaller in the smaller can 48108, I wonder if that has an impact on the filtration or capacity? Both will fit (the 48109 of course being a bit tighter in headroom. Quote
