FloridaMan Posted August 30, 2020 Report Posted August 30, 2020 Ever since I got my rocket the baggage door seal has stuck badly to where occasionally we have to reattach the seal. Is it the rubber in the seal that’s failed and is causing this?
Guest Posted August 30, 2020 Report Posted August 30, 2020 Try rubbing silicone grease like DC4 on the face of the seal or the flange of the door to keep them from sticking together, after rebounding the seal to the frame with something like 3 M EC847. Clarence
FloridaMan Posted August 30, 2020 Author Report Posted August 30, 2020 We’ve done this and it lasts a while. It just seems odd that this one seal does it and none of my other planes have this issue.
Hank Posted August 30, 2020 Report Posted August 30, 2020 Clean under the seal with MEK, allow to dry (a minute or two), then reapply adhesive.

PT20J Posted August 31, 2020 Report Posted August 31, 2020 The seal shouldn’t stick to the door frame especially if you put silicone on it (I like the 100% silicone plumber’s grease - it spreads around easier than DC-4.) I wonder if the seal is deteriorating? Is it an aircraft seal, or something someone put on from Home Depot. I just replaced the cabin and baggage compartment seals on my plane. It’s a real pain getting the old glue off, but reasonably straightforward. Mooney uses Brown Aircraft T-9088 p seal. Skip 1

The rubber material that seals are made of starts to break down... the by-product is a sticky gummy material... +1 For silicone grease to try to alleviate the challenge... that should work for a while... Opening the door incredibly slowly sometimes allows the seal to unglue itself... The part that shouldn't be glued.... Unfortunately, Father Time... doesn’t like rubber door seals... in aviation or automobiles.... PP thoughts only, not a silicone seal seller... Best regards, -a-
