I have searched high and low looking for how the dual color anti-collision light should be positioned.  Is the red suppose to face forward with white face aft?  Or is it red on the left with white on the right?

Positioned in a manner to cause the least distraction to the pilot.

These are often used on the vertical stabilizer on some airplane types.  In these applications, the red faces forward.  If it doesn't, then the bright white flash reflects off the cowling, wings, and even the prop and poses a distraction at night.

When I replaced mine, I put the new one in the same way the old one came off. But first I checked a few planes on the ramp to make sure. All were, and my new one is, red forward / white to the rear (just like our incredibly tiny flashlight bulb in the rudder).

What to do when the old flasher goes arhythmic and irregular . . . .
