Has anyone else ever have a unit where the database (nav) will not be recognized when the unit starts up? I am pretty sure that it is a hardware issue with the 530 and not the card or database info.

I have a 430W also and I switched cards and the problem does not travel. Also two different nav database cycles.

The only time I have seen this is when the software in the GNS unit was older and did not recognize the newer, larger capacity orange cards. It took a software update before everything was working again. But if the 430 and the 530 have the same software versions, it sounds like it may be the unit itself.

I’ve had this happen on a bad card - wouldn’t kid the DB. But I knew about it because the checksum failed for the card programming.

First thing a Garmin dealer will try is a completely different card.  If that doesn't work, they will likely suggest sending the unit to Garmin for the flat-rate repair.  The theory being that the card reader on the unit has gone bad.

Thanks all. Just talked to a local shop and he said that would probably be the plan.
