flhelo Posted March 9, 2019 Report Posted March 9, 2019 Help, 68 M20G, I can't remember what this switch does. Any help would be appreciated. The previous owner had told me what it does, but that was about 8-10 years ago. Quote
hmasing Posted March 9, 2019 Report Posted March 9, 2019 That's the engine eject switch. If you have any engine troubles, it activates explosive bolts and throws the engine clear of the airframe. Also, I may not know what I'm talking about. :-) 2 Quote
ArtVandelay Posted March 9, 2019 Report Posted March 9, 2019 From the picture, it tells you to refer to the owners manual, did you? Tom Quote
carusoam Posted March 9, 2019 Report Posted March 9, 2019 That fancy switch is unfortunately un-original... Even though it looks like a fancy weld job to the airframe... Chase its wires before throwing the switch... otherwise process of elimination is your friend... Got a list of all the things your plane has? Best regards, -a- Quote
RLCarter Posted March 9, 2019 Report Posted March 9, 2019 If you haven't used it 8~10 years, it must not be very important....... 2 Quote
takair Posted March 9, 2019 Report Posted March 9, 2019 Couple of guesses. Backup avionics master or shower of sparks override for hand starting. These were hidden under the removable panels on some planes so some folks relocated to a practical location. 1 Quote
Marauder Posted March 10, 2019 Report Posted March 10, 2019 But if you do figure out what it does, please tell us. The suspense is unbearable. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro 1 Quote
orionflt Posted March 10, 2019 Report Posted March 10, 2019 I had a pulse lite system that the previous owner had the switch installed in the same area Quote
PT20J Posted March 10, 2019 Report Posted March 10, 2019 We have a few like that in the museum DC-3. If you figure it out, let us know -- maybe it will give me a clue to ours Quote

flhelo Posted March 10, 2019 Author Report Posted March 10, 2019 Thanks for all the great and "Informative" replies. I was finally able to get a hold of the previous owner and the switch is Non Functional that either the first owner had put in or the factory did!!! Thanks again for all the replies. 1 1 Quote
GDGR Posted March 10, 2019 Report Posted March 10, 2019 You could now tell your passengers that it isolates your headphones, so all you can hear is ATC. Flip the switch, then really hear what they have to say about you.... 3 2 Quote

Captnmack Posted March 10, 2019 Report Posted March 10, 2019 I believe it is for foot well illumination to assist in selecting fuel tanks at night.... Quote

carusoam Posted March 11, 2019 Report Posted March 11, 2019 Everyone with a fuel selector on the floor should have a footwell light.... I found a dead bulb in my 65C’s... when I happened upon the light... It is there to continuously light the fuel selector switch... A hidden switch for the hidden bulb wouldn’t make much sense... By the way... everyone should have a document in their POH that shows an electrical drawing that has all the switches, CBs, and what they are connected to.... Any additions are easy to document there as well.... PP thoughts only... Best regards, -a- Quote

Stephanie Posted March 16, 2019 Report Posted March 16, 2019 What a great spot to add the switch you've always needed a spot for. 1 Quote
