Help,

68 M20G, I can't remember what this switch does. Any help would be appreciated. The previous owner had told me what it does, but that was about 8-10 years ago.

That's the engine eject switch.  If you have any engine troubles, it activates explosive bolts and throws the engine clear of the airframe.

Also, I may not know what I'm talking about.  :-)

That fancy switch is unfortunately un-original...

Even though it looks like a fancy weld job to the airframe...

Chase its wires before throwing the switch...

otherwise process of elimination is your friend... :)

Got a list of all the things your plane has?

Best regards,

Couple of guesses.  Backup avionics master or shower of sparks override for hand starting.  These were hidden under the removable panels on some planes so some folks relocated to a practical location.

In my Mooney a similar switch was for the strobes...

1. Turn lights out in hangar.

2. Turn on master.

3. Flip unknown switch and see if a light comes on.

4. If no light, listen for noise.

Thanks for all the great and "Informative" replies. I was finally able to get a hold of the previous owner and the switch is Non Functional that either the first owner had put in or the factory did!!!

Thanks again for all the replies.

You could now tell your passengers that it isolates your headphones, so all you can hear is ATC.

Flip the switch, then really hear what they have to say about you....

But if you do figure out what it does, please tell us. The suspense is unbearable. emoji1787.png

I believe it is for foot well illumination to assist in selecting fuel tanks at night....

Even if it isn’t, I like that idea for fuel selection, and flap/ trim indicator.

On my 67 F the fuel selector lamp is on the same circuit as the panel lights.

Everyone with a fuel selector on the floor should have a footwell light....

I found a dead bulb in my 65C’s... when I happened upon the light...

It is there to continuously light the fuel selector switch...

A hidden switch for the hidden bulb wouldn’t make much sense...

By the way... everyone should have a document in their POH that shows an electrical drawing that has all the switches, CBs, and what they are connected to....

Any additions are easy to document there as well....

PP thoughts only...

Best regards,

...and that diagram becomes more inaccurate in direct proportion to the age of the Mooney!

Mine has one. It’s factory. It just adds a small amount of diffused light to the footwell.
