Trippster Posted August 22, 2018 Report Posted August 22, 2018 (edited) Looking to buy a Mooney based on all of my research, but I’ve never flown or even been inside one. I’m 5’4” and wondering not only how the Mooney handles, but how is the visibility for me. From another post, it sounds like I’ll need cushions and possibly pedal extensions. Is there any Mooney owners at Conroe/ North Houston airport or within an hour or so drive that might be willing to let me sit in their aircraft and/or possibly take me for a short orientation flight, at my expense of course? Any Mooney specialist CFI’S around that could help me get a good checkout and training in either yours or hopefully my Mooney? Again, preferably in TX, but I travel free so most anywhere is possible. I’m a 29 year Captain with the airlines with a little over 20,000 hours, but most all of it in large jets and not a lot of recent GA time, so I’m looking to get not only proficient, but comfortable. My dad is also going to partner with me. He’s a retired 37 year airline pilot with even less GA time and none in 30 years, so we both need some serious time and work to get qualified to own and fly. Thanks for all help and advice. Tripp Edited August 22, 2018 by Trippster Quote

DonMuncy Posted August 22, 2018 Report Posted August 22, 2018 I have been off flying for a few months due to a knee injury, and I would feel more comfortable giving you a flight if my CFI friend can go along. That can probably be arranged. And a "sit in and feel" requires no help. Let me know. Quote

carusoam Posted August 22, 2018 Report Posted August 22, 2018 Welcome aboard, Tripp... Two pro pilots looking to buy a Mooney? What could be better than that? Plan on getting some transition training time anyway... lots of important details to adsorb. Want to see a whole bunch of Mooneys at one time....? https://www.allamericanaircraft.com/default.htm AAA typically sells some high end Mooneys and has many available to be sat in, caressed, and possibly flown... Mooneys come in three sizes... short, medium and Long Body... They have choices of power plant from 180hp to a TN’d 310hp... Some Are VFR only, others a full Fiki IFR traveling machines... What are you guys planning on using your plane for? (What’s you Typical mission?) Best regards, -a- Quote
wcb Posted August 22, 2018 Report Posted August 22, 2018 Tripp, I am based as are a few other Mooney folks over at DWH. I am happy to help in any way but here is a link from the Mooney Flyer http://themooneyflyer.com/cfi.html Also, one of the local check airmen here in Houston is a Mooney guy over near Cypress. Quote
