jlunseth Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 The Bose A20 Cable Upgrade ends on May 6 for those who want to but have not done it. The upgraded cable permits Bluetooth streaming in. https://boseaviation.com/cable/subscribe/ I got my new cable for my A20's, which I bought when the A20 first came out. I have tried music streaming from my iPhone and it is nice. It can also stream audio from nav apps, I will try streaming from Foreflight when next I fly. 1 2 Quote
jlunseth Posted May 3, 2018 Author Report Posted May 3, 2018 I went up to get night current tonite and used the A20s. The sound is better, although that might come from having replaced the ear cups, my old ones were getting chewed up. Bluetooth streaming from Foreflight on my iPad was flawless. There is a separate volume control for the bluetooth input. I liked em. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted May 3, 2018 Report Posted May 3, 2018 JL, Do you have an altitude alert to remind you when you have reached your assigned altitude? I saw somebody had an app for that... Having BT connected to the headset would make it an interesting useable tool. Best regards, -a- Quote
jlunseth Posted May 3, 2018 Author Report Posted May 3, 2018 (edited) I have an Icarus SAM. You manually set your target altitude and then get an aural notification when you approach it, and arrive at it, and also if you deviate. Have had it for a long time. The aural alerts come through the comm panel (a PS Eng 8000B). It definitely helps to keep from busting assigned altitude. So I already have that, just not through the iPad. If there is an app with an aural alert it would play through the bluetooth connection. Edited May 3, 2018 by jlunseth 1 Quote
tony Posted May 3, 2018 Report Posted May 3, 2018 (edited) Thank you for the post. I have one of the older A20s where I can only make phone calls. I always wanted to steam music, I'll take advantage of the rebate Edited May 3, 2018 by tony Quote
aviatoreb Posted May 3, 2018 Report Posted May 3, 2018 So there is an older bluetooth and now a newer bluetooth? I wish I could stream my Garmin pilot warnings into my headset by blue tooth but never figured out how despite I have the a20 bluetooth. It is a 6 or 7 year old unit - does that mean if I get this thing it will allow me to do what I want? Quote
jlunseth Posted May 3, 2018 Author Report Posted May 3, 2018 (edited) The older bluetooth allowed cell calls but not streaming in. The newer one allows streaming in, so anything you can play off your iPad or iPhone or other bluetooth device, should play. You need to “pair” the iPad and the device. Turn the headset off (not necessary, but works better for me). Go into settings in the iPad and tap on Bluetooth. A new screen will come up on the right side with a list for devices to pair with. Now turn your A20’s on, and then press the bluetooth button on the A20’s. The bluetooth light on the headset changes color for pairing from blue to a kind of purple. Give it a little time, the Bose A20 should show up on the list on your iPad. When it does, tap on “Bose A20” and it will pair. Once it has been paired with the A20 it should then pair automatically whenever the two devices are together, but if it doesn’t just go through the pairing exercise again. If my advice doesn’t work, read the instructions! You can get a manual for the Bluetooth A20 online at Bose’s website. It may be that you have the old bluetooth cable though, that did not support streaming in. You can also get information on that from the Bose website. Edited May 3, 2018 by jlunseth Quote
