Yetti Posted February 9, 2018 Report Posted February 9, 2018 (edited) I picked up the Node-Red bug again. Node-Red is a visual coding wiring together of things. Building on the Raspberry PI. I need 8 Thermocouple to monitor the engine. We need to convert the analog thermocouple signal to digital Edited February 9, 2018 by Yetti Quote
Hank Posted February 9, 2018 Report Posted February 9, 2018 Lessee, 8 thermocouples . . . 4 EGT 4 CHT Oil Temp Carb temp (for me, anyway) OAT Oops, one of us cain't count! Will it handle Pressure Transducers for Oil, Fuel and Manifold Pressure? And so ething for Fuel Flow? That's all I need . . . . Got a fresh, crisp Franklin for a finished unit that looks neat and works. Seriously, I didn't realize the Build-Your-Own Raspberry Pi craze went quite this far. But I could be convinced to like it! Dream to fly Posted February 9, 2018 Report Posted February 9, 2018 We???? I know about "we" and that usually means many..... and a phase that starts out "hey watch this" I would check mouser electronics or omega systems. Quote

Oh you want the advanced version that will be $150.00 and released in version 2. dang free loaders causing scope creep 2 1 Quote

Only thing cheap about a plane is the pilot 2 Quote
carusoam Posted February 10, 2018 Report Posted February 10, 2018 Getting oil T, comes with an additional challenge... the existing probe is a thermistor... There are other locations that can use a TC, but they are in a different place... Classic ship's gauge vs other gauge challenge ... PP thoughts only... Best regards, -a- Quote
Yetti Posted February 10, 2018 Author Report Posted February 10, 2018 sensor -> amplifier(analog to digital) -> Raspberry PI -> I2C to read digital input -> webpage -> wifi -> tablet -> eyeball -> brain -> hand -> throttle/mixture -> fuel servo Mostly following the Stratux route replacing Google code with Node-red 1 Quote

Yetti Posted February 10, 2018 Author Report Posted February 10, 2018 Looks like we are going to use Highcharts gauges wrappered in nodered dashboard. https://www.highcharts.com/demo/gauge-dual First time I tried this I used the steelseries and tried to write my own web pages with html5 Quote
Yetti Posted February 10, 2018 Author Report Posted February 10, 2018 Might possibly need pull up resistors Quote
Jerry 5TJ Posted February 10, 2018 Report Posted February 10, 2018 The millivolt thermocouple outputs do need buffering & amplification before you apply them to ADC inputs. Quote
Yetti Posted February 10, 2018 Author Report Posted February 10, 2018 Using an adafruit ads1155 for amplification 1 Quote
N601RX Posted February 10, 2018 Report Posted February 10, 2018 (edited) You really need a dedicated thermocouple IC to take care of the challenges you are going to encounter with a programable amp. Take a look at Analog Devices AD8494 family. http://www.analog.com/en/analog-dialogue/articles/measuring-temp-using-thermocouples.html Edited February 10, 2018 by N601RX Quote
Hank Posted February 10, 2018 Report Posted February 10, 2018 How does data go back and forth to a web page from cruise altitude, in the boonies, or where I often fly which is at altitude over the boonies? Quote
Yetti Posted February 10, 2018 Author Report Posted February 10, 2018 You add a web server to raspberry PI computer. the web server then serves up a web page to your network created over the wifi in your airplane Quote
kpaul Posted February 10, 2018 Report Posted February 10, 2018 When did this site start posting in a foreign language. I think someone mentioned eating Raspberry Pie. I'll take mine a' la mode. 2 Quote

That's clear . . . ly semi-intelligible. I can figure out most things that I can hold in my hands, but electrons are too small and often behave in unpredictable manners (see capacitors, diodes and transistors; see also induced current; see also my grades in required EE courses . . . . ) Quote

ArtVandelay Posted February 11, 2018 Report Posted February 11, 2018 You can use an arduino, they already have thermocouple amplifiers you can order, it can do the web server but not the hdmi, you can also save to an sdcard. It’s designed for analog, digital sensors. Quote
Yetti Posted February 11, 2018 Author Report Posted February 11, 2018 The SDO SDK pins on that board is the I2C that I am currently working with bringing in and displaying Quote

Yetti Posted February 11, 2018 Author Report Posted February 11, 2018 I am kind of digging this for the sensor side https://www.phidgets.com/docs/What_is_VINT%3F Quote
Yetti Posted February 11, 2018 Author Report Posted February 11, 2018 Before someone brings up the certified aircraft thing. Does anyone have the Garmin G1000 sensor part list? Since those were installed at the factory they should be good for any Mooney under the TDS. Quote
