I don't know about the newer models but my 66' E does have a speed limit with gear extended of 120MPH. It is also the maximum extension and retraction speed. Makes it easy to remember just one number. Quote

There can be a limit for gear in transit coming up. A different speed for gear in transit going down. And one for the gear extended. My M29K 252 has all three. 206 KIAS for gear coming up. 140 KIAS for gear going down. And 165 KIAS for gear down. Quote

At least for the 252, Mooney was pretty explicit with their speeds: VLE Maximum Land- 165/165 DO NOT exceed ing Gear Ex- this speed tended Speed with Ldg. Gr. extended. VLO Max. Speed for DO NOT extend or retract Gear Operations Ldg. Gr. above these speeds. Gr. Retract 104/107 Gr. Extend 139/140 The two speeds are KCAS/KIAS. Quote
hoot777 Posted January 4, 2023 Report Posted January 4, 2023 I’ve got a unique situation. New zero time engine needs break in at 75% power I have to ferry it gear down due to out of annual. If I push the 120 then I might mess up my first two hours of engine time. Looking for thoughts. Gear speed in a citation is 200 k operating but can fly gear down at 292k. Quote

I’ve had both sides break the mounting brackets.Not only that but 252’s and Encores have 3 doors to cover the gear fully vice the 2 used on the J.But agree with you, i always extend the gear at speeds much less than max extension gear speed of 140 since it’s much less wear and tear on the gear door rods and brackets which will develop elongated holes eventually leading to breaking. Incidentally, sloppy gear doors from elongated holes can be repaired by welding the rod holes and re-punching to size without replacing $ rods.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
